  MERRYE LUCILLE JOHNSON WADLEY - On Wednesday, January 4, 2006, Merrye L. Wadley departed this life peacefully at the William and Sally Tandet Center in Stamford, CT. Merrye was born in Okolona , Mississippi on October 17, 1913 to Benjamin and Ella Jo Johnson. She was the wife of the late Booker T. Wadley. In 1932, Merrye relocated to Stamford, CT and worked as a pediatric nurse for several families, most notably the James and Celeste Campbell family of the states of Maryland and Washington. She later worked as a domestic cook for several families in the Stamford area. At any early age she dedicated her life to Jesus at the Calvary Baptist Church in Okolona. During the 1940's, Rev. I. Logan Kearse welcomed Merrye into the Union Baptist Church family. As a member of Union, she became of the original members of the Nurses Aid Unit, the Women's Auxiliary, and the Willing Workers. She also served as a chairperson for the "Little Miss Union Beauty Contest." Merrye loved her pastors and prepared many meals for the Rev. Robert W. Perry. A true example of a striving Christian, she tirelessly baked goods for and visited the sick in the community. Merrye was also a very active and proud member of the NAACP of Stamford for many years. Merrye is survived by her closed friend, Lucille L. Lewis, godchildren Lisa Lewis-Hart/Bruce Hart, Dolores L. Percy-Watkins, Clarence L. Percy III, and Alvena L. Watkins. She also leaves behind the Campbell Family, as well as a host of friends who loved her very much. Three sisters, Bertha Mae Blanchard, Versie Johnson, Bessie Taylor and one brother Ulysses Johnson predeceased her. A memorial service to celebrate her life will be held on Saturday, January 14, 2006 - 11am at the Union Baptist Church, 805 Newfield Ave., Stamford, CT. Donations may be made in Merrye Wadley's name to the American Lung Association.
