Note: Kenneth Stone Published: Tuesday, October 14, 2008 4:37 PM PDT Funeral services will be held Saturday, Oct. 18 for Kenneth T. (Ken) Stone, a longtime resident of Elk Grove who died Oct. 3, 2008 due to complications from a fall. He was 65.Mr. Stone was born Aug. 22, 1943 in Great Bend, Kansas to Edward and Irene Stone. He was the oldest of seven children and grew up in Sacramento, graduating from Bishop Armstrong High School (now Christian Brothers) in 1961, and then attended Sacramento State University.On May 25, 1963 he married Linda Gann and headed to San Francisco to work for Western Asbestos. But a year later they moved back to Sacramento and eventually settled in Elk Grove.Involved in the construction industry for many years at Campbell Construction and Yancy Co., Mr. Stone started River City Roofing in 1976. Shortly after, he built the family’s present home and equestrian center, Nighthorse Farm on Sheldon Road.In 1999 he began selling real estate and worked at Lyon Real Estate in Elk Grove. More recently he went to work for the Sacramento Catholic Diocese, making sure that St. Joseph’s Church in Elk Grove was immaculate for every wedding and funeral service.He was well known for his devotion to his family, spending hours in the grandstands watching his children, then his grandchildren race quarter midgets and jump horses. He was a Boy Scout leader and sports fan, including golf and fishing. Both Ken and Linda were members of the Corvette Club in Sacramento, racing their ’58 and ’70 cars on the autocross track at Cal Expo.Mr. Stone was a member of the Knights of Columbus, Sons In Retirement, Elk Grove Chamber of Commerce, Association of Realtors, Masters Club and GRI.“Ken enjoyed people,” said his family. “He was fascinated by every single person he’d meet and by the time the conversation ended he would know virtually everything about them. And his wicked sense of humor was legendary.”He was preceded in death by his father, Edward F. Stone.Mr. Stone is survived by his wife of 45 years, Linda Nell Stone of Elk Grove; and their children and grandchildren, Jerry Stone, wife Kathy and children Austin and Mackenzie, Deborah Stone and children Chelsie and Haley, Gregory Stone, wife Rosy and children Mark and Emilley all of Elk Grove, and Annemarie Rice, husband Stephen and children Gracie and Katie of Lynden, Wash.He also leaves behind his mother, Irene Johnson Stone of Wilton, member of a Wilton pioneer family.Mr. Stone was the brother of Ronald of Watsonville, Dennis and wife Nancy of Atlantic Beach, Fla., Terence, Donald and wife Becki, Kevin and wife Teri, and Kathleen Takai and husband Glenn all of Sacramento.Saturday’s services begin at 11 a.m. at St. Joseph’s Church, 9961 Elk Grove-Florin Road.
