 STEPHENVILLE - J. P. Thompson, Jr., 88, died Saturday, Sept. 4, 2004, at Harris Methodist Hospital in Fort Worth.
 Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 7, 2004, at Stephenville Funeral Home with the Rev. Dean Reed officiating. Burial will follow in Indian Creek Cemetery in Erath County. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, Sept. 6, 2004, at Stephenville Funeral Home.
  Mr. Thompson was born Feb. 6, 1916, in Carlton. He was married to La Verne Schrimsher on Aug. 26, 1939, in Brady. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Past Commander of the American Legion, a life member of the DAV and VFW and served as a scout master. He had lived in Erath County since 1951. He served in the Army in World War II. He was a retired teacher and coach, mail carrier (carrying the old route 3) and a dairyman.
  He is survived by his wife, La Verne; a daughter, Penny Ann Tanner of Rendon; a son and daughter-in-law, Thomas Hobart and April Thompson of Gainesville; five grandchildren, Tracey and husband James Manuel of Austin, Samantha Stiles of Lott, Patricia Ann Thompson of Stephenville, Shannon Gonzales of Mansfield and Chelsea Ann Thompson of Gainesville; children of the heart, Jim Burns of Fort Worth, Lynn Hulse of Stephenville, Don Stiles of Lott and Greg Schrimsher of Austin; a sister, Midge Norvell of Dalhart; several nieces, nephews and cousins.
  Memorials may be made to the donor's favorite charity.
