 Geneva Mayes, 97
 Geneva Neal Mayes was born at Jonesboro, La., August 14, 1907 to the late James Joseph Franklin and Annie Rachel Ebert Neal. She departed this life on Monday, August 16, 2004 at 12:50 p.m. in her home in Monroe, La. surrounded by her loved ones.
 Mrs. Mayes was preceded in death by her husband of 54 years Henry C. Mayes; a son, Levene Mayes; two daughters, Lucille Becton and Mary Anniree Ikerd.
 Grandma Mayes is survived by five daughters, Arnell Mayes of Monroe, who has lived her entire life with her mother; Elsie and Lt. Col. Albert Cordani of League City, Texas; Reva and Jesse Griggs of Hitchcock, Texas; Hazel and J.J. Coker of Phoenix, Arizona; Ruby Williams of Monroe; a dear friend, Vera Hull of Goodrich, Texas and one 1st cousin. Mrs. Mayes has 19 grandchildren, many great and great-great grandchildren as well as many loving nieces and nephews.
 Services were held Thursday, August 19, 2004 in the chapel of Southern Funeral Home with Reverend Norman Newsome of Waskom officiating. Matthew Haynes, a great-grandson, gave the eulogy with special music by great-granddaughter Ashley Leach. Grandsons served as pallbearers. Burial followed at Salem Cemetery near Eros.
