Note: a WEST MONROE, LA – Funeral services for Mrs. Era Marie Lowrey Morse, age 88 a retired librarian-file clerk of West Monroe, Louisiana, will be held at 3 PM Saturday, May 17, 2014 at Cox Funeral Home Chapel in Oak Grove, Louisiana. Grandsons Michael A. Bickford, Jeffrey R. Greer, and Brian S. Johnson will officiate. Interment will follow in the Forest Corner Cemetery near Forest, Louisiana. Services are under the direction of Cox Funeral Home of Oak Grove. Mrs. Morse was born June 3, 1925, at Quitman, Louisiana to the late Clinton Dewey and Jewel Neal Lowrey. She died at Landmark Nursing Home with family by her side, Monday, May 12, 2014. Mrs. Morse is preceded in death by her parents, Clinton & Jewel Lowey; husband, Charlie Alvin Morse; daughter, Sharon M. Johnson; two brothers, C. D. and Eugene Lowrey, and a sister, Sunshine Horton. Mrs. Morse was a member of the Cypress Street Church of God, West Monroe, and as long as able attended. Mrs. Morse first and foremost loved her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ; she loved her family, was an avid reader and loved to crochet. She was a lifetime resident of Louisiana and a resident of Ouachita Parish since 1979. She was a retired Librarian-File Clerk with Monroe Legal Services. Mrs. Morse leaves behind to cherish her memory, daughters, Sandra Johnson and husband Bill of Prentiss, MS and Jewel Lowery and husband Stancil of West Monroe; son-in-law, Anthony Johnson of Bastrop; eight grandchildren, Charles Johnson and wife Monta, Brian Johnson and wife Alice, Susan Hicks and husband Michael, Ellen Perdue, Arthur Loyd Patton, Jr., Dan Maples and wife Denise, Michelle Greer and husband Jeff, Michael Bickford and wife Tammy; 18 great grandchildren and 5 great great grandchildren; special brother, Clyde Revis Lowrey and wife Syble; sister, Jewel Virginia Swann and husband Lonnie; many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Serving as pallbearers are grandsons, Brian Johnson, Loyd Patton, Michael Bickford, Dan Maples, Jeff Greer, and Devin Greer. The family wishes to extend a special thank you to Reverend Dennis Anger who prior to retiring and moving away was faithful to visit her monthly. She always treasured those visits with her pastor and friend. Thank you West Monroe Landmark Nursing & Rehab Center nurses and CNA's who loved Marie and gave her such tender loving care during her stay in the facility. Thank you Gamble Hospice for the great compassion and tender loving care provided to our loved one. The family will receive friends from 1 to 3 PM on Saturday, May 17, 2014 at Cox Funeral Home in Oak Grove, Louisiana. Notes for ERA MARIE LOWREY: Marie was born in Jackson Parish, Louisiana where she lived until she was six years old when her family moved to Winnfield in Winn Parish, Louisiana. Later they moved to Bienville Parish, Louisiana where her father had grown up. When Marie was fourteen years old, her family moved to West Carroll Parish, Louisiana; later, they moved out to Bouef River, still in West Carroll Parish, where she met Charlie on June 18, 1939 at some of his relatives who lived nearby on Bouef River.(from Sheila Johnson notes)
