Michael "Mike" Kennington HALL SUMMIT, LA - Funeral services for Michael "Mike" Kennington, 55, of Hall Summit, LA will be held at 1 PM, Thursday, January 29, 2009 at the First Baptist Church, Coushatta, LA. Officiating will be Chaplain Jimmy Sistrunk of Winner's Circle Church. Visitation will be held from 6 PM until 8 PM, Wednesday, January 28, 2009 at Rockett-Nettles Funeral Home, Coushatta, LA. Interment will follow in Holley Springs Cemetery. Mike was born August 21, 1953 in Shreveport, LA and passed away January 26, 2009. Mike was a natural mentor to many youth in their 4-H livestock projects. This included many who were successful on the local, state, and national level. As an active member in the Louisiana Thoroughbred Breeder's Association, Mike was instrumental in the passage of the "Slot's Bill", which eventually saved horse racing in Louisiana. His love of the thoroughbred industry was evident as a breeder and owner of many Louisiana Bred Champions, most notably, the phenomenal filly, "Hallowed Dreams". The banking industry will miss his special ability to encourage people in many walks of life. There was also a humorous side to Mike, who delighted in pulling practical jokes on his friends and family. Mike leaves behind many whose lives he touched both professionally and personally. His forthright ability to counsel, guide, and befriend others in the pursuit of their dreams will live with us forever. He was preceded in death by his father, K.D. Kennington; his mother, Marie Kennington; father and mother-in-law, James and Allene McGuire; and nephew, Kenny Kennington. He is survived by his wife, Ann McGuire Kennington of Hall Summit, LA; one brother, Ken Kennington of Dixie Inn, LA; two sisters, Karen Kennington Sasser and husband, Ronnie of Alexandria, LA and Janice Carlisle and husband, Doyle of Haughton, LA; Nephews and Niece, T. J. and Shawn Sasser and Cody, Casey, Cadie, and Clint Carlisle; brother and sister-in-law, Jimmie and Susan McGuire of Vivian, LA and His Beloved Sons, Robbie Simmons and Eric Doss. Pallbearers will be Gary Giddens, Cody, Casey, and Clint Carlisle, Eli Walker, Daniel Lonsberry. Honorary Pallbearers will be Robbie Simmons, Eric Doss, Robert Thomas, Dennis and Beau Bryant, Tyler Jones, Les Gray, "His Boys" Chad Latiolais, Stephen and Heath Giddens and Chris Wood. The family requests memorials be made to Winners Circle Church, P. O. Box 5584, Bossier City, LA 71117. Funeral services under the direction of Rockett-Nettles Funeral Home Coushatta, LA, 318-932-4362
