Notes
a. Note:   HATTIE'S OBITUARY Funeral service for Hattie “Memaw” Lemons, 90, of Nacogdoches, will be at 2:00 pm on Friday, December 27, 2019 at Laird Funeral Home with Bro. Sonny Scarborough and Bro. Zack Turner officiating. Burial will follow at Fairview Cemetery.
Mrs. Lemons passed away on Friday, December 20, 2019 in Nacogdoches. She was born August 4, 1929 in Broaddus.
Visitation will be from 6-8 pm on Thursday, December 26, 2019 at Laird Funeral Home.
Hattie grew up in Nacogdoches, attended and graduated from the Nacogdoches Demonstration High School in 1947. She then met and married the love of her life, John F. Lemons, on October 20, 1949. They were married 49 years until his passing.
As a stay at home mom for most of her life, she took pride in saying she raised not only her six children but half the neighborhood as well. As her children grew older and left her nest, she then became the beloved “Memaw” and took an active part in helping to raise and mold her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She wore the title “Memaw” with pride. Most especially as this newest generation still came to her in later years when they needed her wisdom and guidance and cooking skills. From the time she retired until recently Hattie always had lunch on the table at 12 noon for anyone who stopped by. “And boy was it always good!”
Her other passion in life was sewing! Over the years she made clothes for her children, dressed dolls of all sizes, made preemie baby clothes, quilts, aprons and potholders. If you ever visited her, you never left empty handed.
Hattie was preceded in death by her husband, John F. Lemons; son, John L. Lemons and grandson, Kyle Blankenship.
She is survived by her children, all of whom are from Nacogdoches: Arthur Lemons and wife Sheila, Linda Nichols and husband Preston, Brenda Drewery and husband Dale, Gail Blankenship and husband Don, Larry Lemons and wife Nita. She was also blessed to be survived by 11 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren, and 4 great-great-grandchildren.
Serving as pallbearers will be her grandsons: Shane Lemons, Shawn Drewery, Adam Lemons, Casey Blankenship, Scott Nichols, Mark Nichols.
The Lemons family is being served by Laird Funeral Home. To convey condolences or to sign an online register, please visit www.lairdfh.net.
