Note: Weldon Donald “Donnie” Dawson, 78, of Amarillo died Monday, Oct. 20, 2014. Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday in LaGrone- Blackburn-Shaw Coulter Road Chapel with Glen Walton of Bell Avenue Church of Christ officiating. Burial will follow in Memory Gardens Cemetery. Arrangements are by LaGrone-Blackburn-Shaw Funeral Directors Coulter Road Chapel, 8310 S. Coulter St. Weldon was born Sept. 26, 1936, in Childress to Weldon and Louise Dawson. He attended school in Childress and graduated from Childress High School in 1955. He married his wife Montie Timmons on Nov. 9, 1956, in Amarillo. Donnie worked for Pioneer Natural Gas Co., Shamrock Oil Co., and then retired from Levi Strauss and Co. in 1995 after working for 25 years as a computer programmer. Donnie loved to camp and fish, especially in the mountains of Colorado. He was a member of Bell Avenue Church of Christ. Donnie was a loving and caring husband and father who will be greatly missed by his family. He was preceded in death by his parents and his stepfather. Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Montie; a daughter, Kelly Bernhardt and husband Stephen of Amarillo; three sons, Ray Don and wife Heide of Lubbock, Ron and wife Lisa of Canyon and John of Bushland; four granddaughters, Tasha Porter and husband Steve of Abilene, Anya Cost and husband Chris of Fort Worth, Heather Perkins and husband Ty of Amarillo and Kristy Allen and husband Caleb of Stephenville; three grandsons, Jake Dawson of Lubbock and Brett Dawson and Brandon Dawson, both of Canyon; four great-granddaughters, Celes Cost, Reagan Porter, Ashlyn Allen and Hannah Allen; three great-grandsons, Kevin Porter, Collin Cost and Keith Porter; and two nieces, Cassie Uythoven of Burleson and Angie Timmons-Hanselka of Irving. The family would like to express their sincerest thanks to Dr. Patel and his staff for their loving care for the last 10 years. The family suggests memorials be to Northfield Cemetery Fund.
