Note: Obituary for Oma Odel McMath Funeral services for Oma "Bear" McMath, 77, of Portales, will be at 2:00 PM on Wednesday January 20, 2010, at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints with Bishop Larry Hancock officiating. Burial will follow at Portales Cemetery with Jimmie Looney, Jr., Dearil Dean Looney, Jr., Floyd Hancock, Jr., Garret Hancock, Todd Looney, Michael Looney, Floyd Hancock, Sr., and Chaney Hancock as Pallbearers. Honorary Pallbearers will be Joey Looney and all her friends and family.
Oma was born on November 5, 1932, in River View, Texas to Elsie and Omie (Howerton) Brown and passed away on January 16, 2010, in Portales. Oma lived in River View and started school there. At age 8 she and her family moved to Portales where she finished her schooling. She lived in Hagerman in the 1960's and it was while living there, she married Robert O. McMath on January 10, 1969, in Roswell. They both moved back to Portales in 1969 where she has stayed. She was a homemaker. Her family was her life. She was a very loving mother, wife, and grandmother. She was a very straight forward person and loved living a very simple life. She worked at Dever's Truck Stop for awhile as a waitress and was a friend to all who came in there. She loved to fish and to take care of her roses.
Oma is preceded in death by her two grandsons, Robert and Jeff Hancock; her husband, Robert in 2006, and her parents.
She is survived by her sons; Jimmie Leroy Looney, Sr. and wife, Brenda of Portales and Dearil "Dink" Dean Looney and wife, Susan also of Portales. Oma is also survived by her daughter, Twana Hancock and husband, Floyd of Portales; 10 grandchildren, and 12 great grandchildren.
