a. Note:   Martha Jo Norrid Obituary
 Martha Jo Norrid LUBBOCK-Martha Jo Norrid, 84, passed away Thursday, Jan. 30, 2014, in Lubbock, Texas. A visitation will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 2, 2014, at Resthaven Funeral Home. A celebration of her life will be at 1 p.m. Monday, Feb. 3, 2014, in the Abbey Chapel of Resthaven Funeral Home. Interment will follow in Resthaven Memorial Park. Martha was born Jan. 13, 1930, in Pine Forest, Texas, to Bertha and Guy Parnell. She graduated Pickton High School in 1949 and moved to Amarillo in 1950. Martha married Floyd Norrid April 21, 1950, in Clovis, N.M. In 1952 Martha and Floyd moved to Lubbock, where she was a member of Flint Avenue Baptist Church. Her faith and family were her top priorities. Martha resided with Floyd in Arnett Benson most of their married life. Martha worked 37 years for the city of Lubbock; after her retirement in 1988 she indulged in her hobbies, pursuing multiple collections with Floyd, socializing with friends and neighbors at the senior center, always jointly reaching out to friends and family anywhere there was a need. She was a devoted mother and the adored Mema to her grandchildren, who she loved spending time with. Martha moved to Wilshire Place in 2011. She loved her many friends there and looked forward to the activity and worship with them. Martha was an avid reader. She was preceded in death by Floyd, her loving husband and best friend of 54 years; parents, Bertha and Guy Parnell; brother, Wayne Parnell; and sisters, Peggy Palmer and Billie Speed. Survivors include her son, David Norrid; daughter, Brenda Wesley; six grandchildren, Chase, Chance, Adam, Alec, Ruby, and Pam; five great-grandchildren, Jason, Brookelyn, Jaelyn, Reagan, and Addison; brother, John Parnell; two sisters, Marilyn McQueen and Nola De Vaun; and loving extended family and friends. Memorials may be made to the American Diabetes Association
