Note: LA Dept of Transportation 34 years, Large Eqmt Operator, Retired 1984 Ronald Earl "Earl" Bell Birth: Mar. 3, 1925 Jonesboro Jackson Parish Louisiana, USA Death: Aug. 4, 2009 Jonesboro Jackson Parish Louisiana, USA Uncle Earl has two tombstones: (1) one with his wife of 41 years, my Aunt Lorrene MAY BELL in Hickory Springs Cemetery, and (2) a tombstone by his mother and where he was buried by his last wife, Opal FLYNN WAFER. He worked for the LA Department of Transportation for 34 years as a heavy equipment operator. He lived by the "Old May Place", which is just off H126 on Chester Road driving toward the Hickory Springs Cemetery, for 41 years with Aunt Lorrene and was so much help when I started working on the MAY Family Genealogy. He knew everyone, enjoyed telling me stories of the family and could eat some catfish! He died while living at the Forest Haven Nursing Home, Jonesboro LA. He had one daughter, Rebecca, with his wife, Connie. OBITUARY: The Jackson Independent, Jonesboro LA, 13 Aug 2009 Funeral services for Ronald Earl Bell, 84, of Jonesboro were held August 6 at Edmonds Funeral home with Bro Robert Tyler and Bro. Stan Foster officiating. Burial followed in the Mt. Olive Cemetery. Mr. Bell passed away August 4, 2009 in Jonesboro. Born March 3, 1925, he was a retired truck driver. Mr. Bell was preceded in death by his parents, Eli and Etta Bell and one daughter, Betty Collinsworth and husband Jim. He is survived by his wife Opal Wafer Bell of Saline; one daughter, Priscilla Hood and husband Bobby of Shreveport; four granddaughters, Teykiee Collinsworth of Saline, Susan Childress and husband Dale of Memphis, TN, Sharon Thomley and husband Buck of Ruston, Sheila Toms and husband Murray of Saline; two grandsons, Jeff Hood and wife Kellie of Dallas, TX, Brian Toms of Saline; seven great-grandchildren, Hunter Collinsworth, Thompson Childress, Katie Price, Cody Price, Kane Toms, Kamry Toms and Kirsten Toms; one sister, Gloria Mae Sullivan and husband T.J. of Quitman; three brothers, Oliver Bell and wife Josie of Dallas, TX, Dugan Bell of Quitman, W.R. Bell of Monroe. He is also survived by a host of nieces and nephews. Honorary pallbearer was Tommy Branch. Pallbearers were Danny Carr, Kenneth Scallion, Roger Blewer, Brian Toms, Jr. Branch, and Buck Thomley. Services were under the direction of Edmonds Funeral Home.
