a. Note:   Elected county Treasurer in 1873, served one term, and previous to this, in 1868, he had represented Johnson County in the Legislature. He was also justice of the peace of his township for several years. He has killed at least 500 deer in Arkansas and killed as many as 4 in one hour. He was reported living with his son, T. A. and is a blacksmith and a wagon-maker by trade. Silas Shirley, (the gentleman in the picture with Britton Lee) was the first "elected" Treasurer for the county. Silas Shirley's third wife was Areabell Copeland, a first cousing of Britton Lee. His son, John Wesley Shirley, was married to Britton Lee's daughter, Cansada Lee. Descendants of Silas Shirley claim kinship to the infamous woman outlaw, Myra Belle Shirley, aka Bell Starr. It is reputed that she and Cole Younger once visited in the Silas Shirley home.
