a. Note:   Ananias was forced to join the confederate army in 1862. He deserted the confederate and joined the union army, 3rd Arkansas Cavalry Co. M on Jan 28, 1864 He and his wife Sarah Kelly both died in 1864 leaving the children at the ages of 9,8,7, and 3. The parents of Sarah raised the children. They were in the Wiley's Cove Township census in 1870.

  A.J. died 02 Sept 1864 at the Union Army Camp at Lewisburg (Morrilton), Conway Co. He entered as Sgt in Company H, 3rd Ark Cal. His wife, Sarah Jane Kelly, had died in June of the same year in Searcy Co, Ark. A. J. Sutterfield was the son of G. R. and Mary A. Sutterfield who are buried in Scribner. A.J. appears with the family in the 1850 US Census for Campbell, Searcy Co, Arkansas. His name was Ananias J. Sutterfield in that census. It also shows that he was born about 1832 in Alabama.
