  Based on the 1891 census, I am thinking John's parents were Jacob Sheets and Elizabeth Coon. Coon is an Irish surname. Also, this would make Jacob (born 1815) John's brother. They both married women with the surname Silmser and they were both living in Quebec for a period of time during 1851/1861 censuses.
