a. Note:   Jacob Sheetz was born about 1789 in Augusta County, Virginia and died in July of 1862 in Augusta County, Virginia of dropsy. Dropsy is the abnormal accumulation of serous fluid in the body.
  In his father`s will, Jacob was to receive 400 pounds cash from his father. At a later date, his father disowned him, reason unknown. His father changed the 400 pounds to 5 pounds. After his father`s death, Jacob`s brothers gave him 1000 dollars Virginia money.
  Jacob married Catherine Smith on July 3, 1810 in Augusta County, Virginia by Reverend William King. Reverend King was an Episcopalian. Jacob`s last name was misspelled as Sweetz. Catherine was born 1791 in Virginia. In a handwritten document by Henry Coffman, Catherine`s name was listed as Catharina.
  Jacob and Catherine are listed in the census records of 1820, 1830, 1840, 1850, and 1860 living in Augusta County, Virginia. Jacob was always listed as a farmer. Living with them in 1820 was an older female aged 45+. Living with them in 1860 was L. W. Sheets (male) born 1845, M. J. Kline (female) born 1849, and S. Sheets age 15.
  Jacob bought land from his brother, Andrew Sheetz on August 27, 1810 for $400.00 Virginia money. This was some of the land that Andrew received from his father. Jacob sold this same land to his brother, John Sheets in 1817 for $600.00 Virginia money. Jacob also bought 53 acres of land from Andrew Sheets on February 9, 1831. Jacob signed his name Sheetz and Catherine made her mark. Jacob and Catherine lived in Augusta County, Virginia where they farmed and raised a large family of ten children.
