Note: John Sheets was born 6-24-1792 in Virginia and died 4-29-1854 Augusta County, Virginia of dyspepsia. His wife was Sarah Shott, who was born 4-22-1788 Virginia and died 1-20-1848 Augusta County, Virginia. They were married 2-24-1814 Augusta County, Virginia. She was the daughter of Richard Shott and Mary Morgan. They are buried Salem Lutheran Church Cemetery Augusta County, Virginia.
John was a shoemaker and farmer. They were listed 1840 & 1850 in the census of Augusta County, Virginia. In 1850, they are living next door to John`s father, Philip (4). Living with them in 1850 were Mary Shott who was born 1770 Ireland and Betsy Savage who was born 1820 Virginia.
John was the primary beneficiary in his father`s will. His brothers and sisters combined together and sued him after their father died. John died shortly thereafter.which is the age of our John William Sheets at time. There was no mother
listed. No other record shows anything that records a spouse or children. This
may be our only clue.
A John Sheets was found having written a will. The only clues we have to this
is the names he had left this belongings to. They were Philip Sheets, son,
Franklin Sheets, son, Adam Sheets, son, Simon Sheets, son. There were other
Sheets on his will but no mention of their relationship. Peter, Jonathan,
Henry, and Andrew Sheets. The will was read June 1, 1854 after John Sheets had
died.
The Hulvey Clan Book at the FHL says that John Sheets was born in 1795 and was
married to an Elizabeth but no last name and nothing more was said. I have to
assume that he was married to Sarah Shott first then later married Elizabeth if
he indeed did marry a second wife. I also am more inclined to beleive he was
born in 1792 than in 1795 because he would only have been 19 when he got
married if he was born in 1795.
AF has him born in 1794 with an older sister born in 1792.
Death records of Augusta County Virginia have him 54 years old died April 30, 1954 parents Philip and Catharine Sheets recorded by Elizabeth Sheets.
