Note: Birth and death dates are taken from his tombstone inscription. George is
buried at Bowermans St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran and German Reformed church cemetery, loca ted in Enterline, Wayne Twp., Dauphin county. His tombstone lists his age as 86 years, 7m, an d 16d. He is listed as one of
William and Barbara (Zimmerman) Sheetz's children in the Biographical Encyclopedia of Dauphi n Co., Pennsylvania, 1896, by Runk and Company, pg. 1139. It notes his marriage, and the n ames of (4) of his known children.
George is listed in the 1870 US PA census records, age 38, residing in Jefferson Twp., Dauphi n county, with his wife Margaret, age 34, and three of their children. He lists his occupatio n as farmer, with a realistate value at $3,000, and personal property at $300.00. In a map o f Jefferson Township land owners for the year 1875, it notes that a George Sheetz has 80 acre s S. of the Powells Creek. In the publication, "Dauphin County Historical Atlas of 1875", rep rinted by the Dauphin Co. Historical Society in 1985, page 90, it notes that Geroge Sheat s was a farmer and stock raiser. It also confirms his birth (settlement) year as 1832. In th e 1880 census his wife's name is Barbara (?) and she is listed as 43, speculating that Margar et (wife #1) had gone (were they divorced? as Margaret's death records indicate that she die d in 1905), and that George remarried for a second time. There is one more daughter listed: A manda, nine years of age. In the 1910 US PA census records for Halifax Twp., Dauphin county , George notes his age as 77 years. It appears that he is widowed, but that he has (2) servan ts and their families residing w/him: Leada Smith, age 18, and Emma Ulrich, age 37, who is no ted as "housekeeper", along w/her husband and (4) children.
