Notes
a. Note:   James's birth and baptism dates are extracted from the records found at Fetterhoff's Evangelical Lutheran and German Reformed Church located in Halifax Twp., Dauphin county. The parents were also the sponsors. In the 1850 US PA census records, James, then age 4 years, was discovered living in the household of his grandfather, Peter Enterline, and grandmother Susanna (Messner) Enterline, of Jefferson Township, Dauphin county. No doubt this living arrangement was out of necessity because James's father, Samuel Schitz, had died two years prior. Later James's name is found in the 1870 US PA census records (aged 25 at the time), residing back in Jackson Township, Dauphin county, and living in the household of a Peter Klinger. He notes his occupation as "carpenter", and no doubt was working as an carpenter's apprentice under Peter Klinger.
