Note: The Christian Index - Wed, Feb 6, 1861 Died in Clarke County,Ga. at the residence of her husband, on the 14th day of Augustlast, Mrs. Martha R. Thompson in the 48th year of her age. Itis useless to eulogize her character for her many virtues yetlive in the hearts of her friends. She was a consistant memberof the Baptist Church at the time of her death, and ever seemedto take a delight in following the example of her Saviour.Stricken with consumption, she was confined to her room formonths previous to her death. The subject of death was to her afamiliar theme, one upon which she conversed with her friendsas freely as if she was going on a journey of pleasure. For awhile her acceptance with God was not as clear as she wished itto be, but ere life's lamp ceased to burn, the last ray ofdoubt is removed and all the glories of Heaven seemed to burstupon her vision. After delivering to her husband and childrenher parting injunctions, and bidding them all adieu, she calledupon all present to meet her in Heaven, and calmly fell asleepin Jesus. While the foot-prints of the mourners are yet fresharound the grave of this loved one, again the heart is made tobleed, and the bright flowers of affection are crushed by therude hand of death, and another yet is taken from the familycircle. - The amiable daughter and gentle sister, Eliza F.Thompson in the 17th year of her age, is called from earth toHeaven. A wise Providence deprived her of the sense of hearing, but having the advantage of an education was thus enables toenjoy the society of her parents and friends, also to learn herrelations to her Creator. Although she had scarcely emerged intowomanhood, she saw and felt here self to be a sinner and fledto Christ for refuge. And to show her willingness to follow Himshe united with God's people a year prior to her death. Shebeing deprived of hearing the Gospel preached, still the Wordof God was to her an unfailing source of pleasure, and with afull confidence in her Saviour, she closed her mortal eyes onthe 27th of November to open them in that bright paradise above.A friend
