Notes
a. Note:   Info from Wilma Sheets Jackson and Revolutionory War records from National Archives: Was a private in the 11 th Virginia Regiment commanded by Col Daniel Morgan and was taken prisoner. Reviewed film 1425662 "Tenth Legion tithables" found Jno Sheets listed on page 43 in Capt. Eziekel Harrisons company located in Keezeltown, Va. also on page 44 found under Capt Richard Ragan George Sheets and Daniel Sheets.
born about 1755, probably in Pennsylvania and migrated to Maryland where his first son Henry was born and later shows up in Shennandoah Co. in the Keezeltown area where he was at the outbreak of the Revolution. In 1792 John Sheets Sr. was living in Capt Richard Ragan's Com. known as dist 10. Parts of the district covered Keezletown, north to Fridley's Gap. and west toward Linville. Applications for Rev war pensions show: Caspar Sheets of Pa., George Sheets of Va., John of Pa., Jacob of Md., Mathias of Va. Philip of Pa. and John of Va. all may be related.!While in Rockingham Co. Historical Society I picked up information which indicates that Three brothers by the names of Mathias, Jacob and Yost Schits were shanghied and made to join mercernaries of Prince of Hessecasle, were sent to America in 1776 to help the British, they deserted and joined the continental army. The spelling of the sirname was changed to Sheetz or sheets because of the vulgar sound of the name. The name means keeper of the Forest or game warden. Origin in the vicinity of Wartbury. Mathias went to North Carolina after the war, Jacob to Virginia and yost to Pennsylvania.
