a. Note:   Jackson M. Sheets was born near Baldwinsville, Edgar Co., Ill on Oct 6, 1841. He lived on a farm with his parents until 1858 when he went to work on the Wabash Valley Blade. At the begining of the war he enlisted in Company I of the 21st Illinois Infantry. He was mustered in as a corporal and served as such until his discharge, which he received by reason of wounds received in the line of duty. He was involved in many battles and his regiment was at the siege of Corinth. The 21st was originally commanded by Gen. Ulyses S. Grant. According to the Biographical report of Edgar County, Col. Sheets as he was known because in his later life he was appointed Military State Agent for Illinois with the rank of Colonel. He married Nannie Clark and they had one daughter Bessie. He was also one of the seven children born to Ruben Sheets and Elizabeth Henning. I have not as yet identified the other six children. See other wife Miss Rozier and other children. Edgar Co. wills & Estates shows Reuben 1852? wife Lydia (Elizabeth) and lists children.
