 A monument was erected in 1879 by Martin Sheets, grandson of JohnSheets. It depicted the early life of the settler. The design is a part of a tree. Perched on top is carved an eagle with wings spread.It resembles a totem pole. Knotholes are carved in the tree with squirrels peeping from them. Other squirrels are clinging to the tree.An ivy vine wanders the full length. A large snake, with the headraised to strike, is carved on one side of the tree. Up about halfway is an axe sunk in the wood.
 At the base is" Erected in memory of John Sheets,pioneer, by his grandson,Martin A. Sheets." also in the inscription is War 1812;in Battle of Tippecanoe. cost $850.00/
