John Sheets b. 1784 PA mar Nancy Johnson Wood Co(dau of Abraham and Rachael Johnson) is son of Michael and Elizabeth Sheets. Michael born Lancaster Co. abt 1747 was the son of John and Elizabeth Sheets who purchased land in Cumberland Co Pa in 1766. Record in Harrisburg at State Archives. When John died in 1790, there was no probate, however there is a land transfer in Franklin Co Pa Vol 3, P 484-485 which names children still living in 1795 from Eva and husband Jacob Portnuss?,Michael and wife Elizabeth, Henry and wife Mary,Catharine and husband Jacob Shot,Henry Sheets, all to George Cook (wife Elizabeth Sheets) and Jacob Sheets (son). The power of attorney for John Sheets and wife Mary was made in Hampshire Co. VA which is where John (Mary) and Michael (Elizabeth) lived at the time. They both went to Wood Co in 1806. Ref VA tax lists both Hampshire and Wood Cos. My records are faulty because I do not have absolute proof of when Michael died however his wife Elizabth is on the 1830-40 Switzerland Co., IN census. Please correct and advise and additions or corrections.
