Notes

Note: Pearl spoke Pennsylvania Dutch before she spoke English. She told about the time she and her sister Mae were in grade school and sang "Mary Had a Little Lamb" in front of the class. They sang the song in Pa. Dutch. After they were finished the teacher told them that it was very nice but "we're trying to teach English here." Pearl and her sister Mae also sang duets in local area churches as young girls. Mae sang soprano and Pearl sang alto. Pearl could also play the piano but in latter years played only at home when by herself. She was a homemaker all of her married years.
