  He was born in Glenville, W.Va., on Aug. 28, 1918, and was the only child of Gilbert and Martha Belle Furr Rhoades. He was graduated from Glenville State College, where he was honored as Little All American Basketball Player.
  He was a mine foreman in Glevnville, W.Va., and was later vice president of Columbia Gas Transmission Co. in Charleston.
  He was preceded in death by his wife, Mildred "Judy" Gainer Rhoades.
  Mr. Rhoades is survived by his daughter and her husband, Victoria Rhaodes Frisk and Fred M. Frisk Jr. of The Villages, Fla.; a son, Gilbert R. Rhoades III of Southern Pines, N.C.; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
  He was a member of Elizabeth Memorial United Methodist Church in Charleston. A memorial service for the immediate family will be held at a later date.
  In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations may be made to Hospice of Lake and Sumter Counties, 12300 Lane Park Road, Tavares, FL 32778.
  Arrangements are being handled by Beyers Funeral Home, Lady Lake, Fla.
