a. Note:   ietta, surrounded by his family. Clen was born Sept. 1, 1923, in Glenville, W.Va., to Thurman and Belle Sholes Furr. He was the oldest of five boys. He graduated from Normantown High School in Gilmer County, W.Va., in 1942. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II in Europe. He worked as a supervisor at Union Carbide in Sistersville, W.Va., for 28 years. Clen held two U.S. patents for a gasoline superheater that would reduce emissions from an internal combustion engine. Clen was baptized April 14, 1963, was a member of Belmont Baptist Church where he served as a church trustee, and he later became a member of Emmanuel Baptist Church in Parkersburg. Clen had a passion for big band, gospel music, sports and spending time with family. He was known for his infectious smile and wonderful sense of humor. Clen married Emma Louise Hildreth on March 5, 1947, in Spencer, W.Va. They were married for 62 years before she passed away on May 21, 2009. They were blessed with three children, Betty (Ed) Hofmann of Parkersburg, Bob Furr of Belmont, W.Va., and Nancy (Mike) Reed of Marietta, Ohio; six grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents and his wife, he was preceded in death by four brothers. Funeral services for Clen will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Lambert-Tatman Funeral Home, 3005 Grand Central Ave., Vienna, W.Va., with Dr. Bill Thomas officiating. Burial will follow at Riverview Cemetery in Williamstown, W.Va. Visitation will be today at the funeral home from 5-7 pm., and one hour prior to the service Tuesday at the funeral home.
