 Harry Joseph Smith, 79, of 6833 the Paseo, died yesterday at Research hospital, where he had been a patient a week.
 Mr. Smith was captain of the guards at the William Rockhill Nelson Gallery of Art and was a retired office employee of the Kansas City Car Interchange bureau.
 He was born in Rich Hill, Mo., and was a charter member of the Trinity Evangelical and United Brethren church.
 Surviving are a son, Lester S. Smith, 5107 North Brighton; two daughters, Mrs. Martha Cox, 5128 South Willis, Independence, and Mrs. Ruth Warner, 2112 East Sixty-ninth; two sisters, Mrs. Ellis A. Lynn, sr., 4709 Benton, and Mrs. Charles A. Belt, 8707 East Fiftieth; a brother, Ernest P. Smith, 220 West Navajo; eight grandchildren and five great grandchildren. Services will be at 1 o'clock Thursday at the Stine and McClure chapel; burial in Greenlawn cemetery. The family suggest memorial contributions to the memorial fund at the Trinity Evangelical and United Brethren church.
