Note: Birth year in family bible is 1890. Age at time of death: 57 years, 0 months, 22 days Obit: A Cherry Picker Killed Fall From Ladder Is Fatal to Clifford A. Smith, 58 Clifford A. Smith, 58 of 937 West Forty-second street, was injured fatally yesterday morning in a fall from a ladder which was placed against a cherry tree. Smith was picking cherries at the home of his father-in-law, Thomas W. Morrison, 4137 State Line. The accident occurred at 9:45 o'clock. His brother-in-law, Richard W. Graff, and nephew, Richard E. Graff, both of 934 West Forty-second street, saw the accident. They said that a limb broke, causing the ladder to fall, and that Smith's head struck a piece of asphalt. He was taken to the General hospital and died at 5:03 o'clock in the afternoon. Smith was an employee of Nutrena Mills, Inc. He was a veteran of World War I and was active in U.S.O. work in World War II. He was a member of the Louis A. Craig post, V.F.W., the Modern Woodmen of America and the Westport Presbyterian church. Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Neuma Smith, and a son, Clifford A. Smith, jr. of the home; two sisters, Mrs. C.A. Belt, 1104 Armour boulevard, and Mrs. Ellis H. Lynn, 900 Armour boulevard, and two brothers, Harry J. Smith, 6833 the Paseo, and Ernest P. Smith, 5129 Wyandotte street. Services will be held at 2 o'clock Tuesday at the Freeman chapel. Burial will be in Green Lawn cemetery.
