a. Note:   Martha S. Cox, 88, of Independence, passed away Friday, May 2, 2008. A celebration of life will be Tuesday, May 6, 2008, at 10 a.m. at D.W. Newcomer's Floral Hills Chapel, with visitation Monday, May 5, 2008, from 6-8 p.m. Burial will be at Floral Hill Memorial Gardens. Martha was born October 27, 1919, in Gardner, Kan., to Harry and Cora Smith. Martha was a secretary for several companies and retired with Panhandle Eastern Pipeline. She was married to Edward Cox for 40 years; he preceded her in death. She enjoyed bowling, playing cards, and having lunch with close friends. She also loved traveling. Martha was a member of New Hope United Methodist Church and was active in Sunday school, Day Circle, the newsletter, and the Bell Choir. She was extremely dedicated to her church, family and circle of friends. She is survived by her three children, Kathy and husband Mike Ulm, Dean and wife Jeanie Cox, and Craig and wife Wanda Cox; eight grandchildren, Derek, Brandon, and Jamie Ulm, Ginger Mooers, April Cox, Laura Walsh, Lisa and Aaron Smith, and two great grandchildren, Mercedes Mooers and Leo Walsh.
