Birth records volume 1 actually show James born 12 Mar 1868 and Sarah E. born 8 Feb 1870 to James and Malinda Chick (for James) and to James and Gulyer (for Sarah)
Gulyer should be Broyles. I have not found death records for James and Malinda Broyles Chick or their tombstones. They were both still alive in 1880 and in 1900. In 1880 they were still in Harrison Township with Cloe, Rosetta B., Fidela, James L. and Sarah E. in the home. Sarah E. died 11 Apr 1887 according to Death Records, Vol. 1, p. 214. She died in Clay Township. In Littleton Cemetery there are buried infants of James and Malinda according to our cemetery records and a few unmarked graves. But there are no dates or names. Thomas Jefferson was in his own home by 1880 having married Elizabeth Boster in 1877. Where James and Malinda went after 1900 I at first had no idea. They did not have death records, probate or tombstones here. The 1900 shows James as born in Mar 1833 and Mary M. born in Jun 1836. Living with them is a grandson Arthur H. born Sep 1882. It says his last name is Chick but I do not whose child he was. They had moved to Clay Township from Harrison where they were in 1880. James states that his father and mother were both born in Ohio which would mean, if accurate, that he was not the son of one of the brothers who were born in England. Also, Mary Malinda states that she had born 11 children and 6 were still living. How many infants are buried in Littleton we do not know but we do know that Sarah E. is buried there and we know that Thomas, Chloe Lewis, Fidelia Miller, Mary Lanthorn, Rosetta Taylor and James L. who must have been called Late were still living in 1900 as they are named in James` obit in 1910. Deceased must include Sarah, Frances Houck, and the infants. I was hoping now to be able to place James in the home of one of the ones we suspect are brothers. But that has not been the case, and with his stating his father was born in Ohio, it agrees with that fact. Then I hit upon a funeral home record showing a 75 year old James Chick died 11 Mar 1910 who lived in Madison Co., Ohio. I found an obit after checking three newspapers. It said he was living in Madison Co., Ohio and died near Mechanicsburg, Ohio. He was buried in Macedonia Cemetery in Harrison Township, Gallia Co. but there is no tombstone for him there. This was the correct James as his children were named as Mrs. W. A. Miller of near Mechanicsburg, OH, Mrs. S. L. Lewis of Angel which is Gallia Co., Mrs. Landthorn of Eureka which is Gallia Co., Mrs. Whitt Taylor of Angola which is also Gallia Co., Thomas J. of Green Township, and Late Chick of Washington C.H. On the last I`m not certain if this was a name of a child as it was capitalized or whether there should have been another name. It also stated that his wife died about eight years ago
.no death record here, and that he had moved around living with different children. 18 Mar 1910, Bulletin This makes Malinda dying about 1902. I, too, consider the possibility that James is Dudley's son, but can not find one iota of proof either way. Henny Evans, Prof. Genealogist
