a. Note:   John (Jack) and his brother attendd St Peters College Adelaide and moved to Melbourne Grammar (aged 19) before completing the first year of a Medical Course at Melbouren University. THis had to be given up following his father's strike in 1907 whern the family decided to pool their financial resources to buy a property and move there. They subsequently moved to "Landsdowns" Wattomondara near Cowra in NSW.
