Note: Mrs. Adams Announces Candidacy for Tax Post In announcing my candidacy for the office of Tax Collector of the Borough of Ellwood City, subject to the Republican primaries in May 1961, I wish to make known to the voters of this district some facts concerning myself and my work. As your tax collector during the past three years I have conducted the duties of the office in a thorough and businesslike manner with courtesy and co-operation with all taxpayers being uppermost in my mind. I have been a resident and property owner in the Borough for 40 years and now reside at 310 Glen Avenue. I am the widow of Charley Adams who was an employee at the Mathews Conveyer Company for many years preceding his death in 1935. Our four children, Charles Adams, Mrs. Phyllis Koach, Mrs. Avereal Rhea and Mrs. Peggy Shirey have all graduated from Ellwood City High School. A sincere interest in civic and community affairs has led me to take an active part in many organizations among which are the Woman's Club, Ellwood City District Council of Republican Women, YWCA Council and Garden Club. I am a member of the First Methodist Church and am on the official board. I am a charter member of the Hospital Auxiliary and have been affiliated with the Girl Scout organization for over 20 years. Before marriage I attended Slippery Rock State College and Geneva College and taught five years, three of which were in Ellwood City. During World War II I was employed at the local plant of the National Tube division in the Industrial Relations Department. Your consideration at this time and your vote at the May Primary nominating me as your candidate for Tax Collector will be sincerely appreciated. Thank you.
