a. Note:   Alma immigrated in 1906 to Evanston, Illinois, to attend the nursing school at Augustana College where she graduated, she took some courses from Northwestern University and received her RN.
  According to letters in Sweden, Alma wrote home and asked where's Walter. She was a childhood sweetheart. She was in school in Illinois and corresponded with Walter Sahlstrom
  Walter Sahlstrom was homesteading in Alberta in the area of Thorsby
  Alma Sahlstrom became wife of Walter Sahlstrom Dec.1910 in Leduc, Alberta, Canada.
  December 13, 1911 Theodore Sahlstrom was born in Leduc, Alberta, Canada
  Walter hooked up two horses to the sled filled the box with hay, covered with canvas put a oil lamp inside for heat and grandmother wrapped in blankets for an all-day trip to the hospital in minus degrees cold weather.
  They left the homestead in Alberta and moved to Fort George, British Columbia. The name was later changed to Prince George. They purchased and operated a hotel.
  Viola Virginia was born on 2 December 1914 in Fort George, B.C., Canada

  Moved to Alaska. Walter cut road ties for the government and Alma was the head nurse at the Matanuska hospital. That is the hospital that Dr. Chris Sahlstrom now works.
  From Alaska they moved to Seattle and purchased the Arian Court Apartments, Alma, managed the apartments and Walter was a streetcar conductor for the surface lines in Seattle.
  February 25, 1918, Elmer Sahlstrom was born at the Providence Hospital in Seattle, King, Washington.
  They then moved to Los Angeles for a short stay.
  The family moved back to British Columbia and purchased 40 acres on Blueberry Creek. Walter built a log cabin and cleared some land and would go trapping for furs. These were very hard times.
  They had a house down in the flats close to the Astrom, her brother in Kinnaird, British Columbia. One night they had a flu fire in the chimney the pipes got so hot, they fell down and started burning the
 house. They tried to save their belongings, but even Walters, rifle hanging on the wall was shooting shots all over the neighborhood. It was said, a terrible loss of life the fire killed a lot of bed bugs.
  After the fire, Alma moved to Spokane in 1926 for work she was very ambitious and was able to get the kids into school.
  The kids were back and forth between Spokane and Blueberry Creek for the next 12 years. See Walter's or Elmer's story.
  Walter Sahlstrom passed away in 1938. He was in the Trail hospital when his brother Charlie, and Gwen with young Bob Sahlstrom, as a little boy saw him last and called him "Uncle Voulter". Later, Alma Sahlstrom took care of him in Spokane, where he died and was buried at Greenwood Memorial Terrace; Spokane, Washington

  Alma Sahlstrom was very ambitious, buying old hotels and fixing them up.
  She married Bill Walls he was a painter, Willard* Raymond Walls *was born in Spokane, Washington.
  She lived in Albany at the 7th and Ellsworth House with Ted and Marianne Sahlstrom in one of the apartments downstairs. 1948 or 1949
  She returned to Spokane 1949
  And she bought a large hotel by the railroad tracks and fixed it up.
  Viola Vi Cronn passed away on 18 November 1954. She was the light of our family, and greatly missed.
  1952-1954, I remember a very large house. I believe on the south west side of the hill. The snow was very deep that year and had a great time playing in. We stayed there a day or two and then traveled on to Canada grandmother Amy Constable Kirk, Marchinek house in trail BC.
  1954-1959 Later, she had a small house in the northern part of Spokane. Just a few blocks away from the main Highway Division St., North.
  She then went to Canada. One year, she had a Scandinavian restaurant on this highway.
  We traveled to Canada for Christmas eight years and learned to ski at Red Mountain
  She moved back to Oregon and bought the Hofman Hotel in Eugene, Oregon.
  It burned down in the winter of 1959 or 1960.
  Grandmother moved to Kaiser, Oregon, 1960-1961
  Bill Walls, died on 21 November 1963, one day before Pres. Kennedy was shot November 22, 1963. We were all sitting around the front room of her house, watching television, waiting for a time to go to the funeral home when we saw President Kennedy get shot in Dallas, Texas. .
  Grandmother sold her home in Kaiser and bought a apartment house in Albany, at the intersection of 18th Ave. SW. And Maple St.
  Grandmother, Alma, died on 31 January 1967 in Albany, Linn, Oregon
  Marianne was looking through her things and found a shoebox full of little shells. She asked Ted Sahlstrom,"what are these shells?" Ted said those were Bill Walls cremated bones.
  Grandmother Alma Sahlstrom is buried at the Willamette Memorial Park Cemetery, just over the hill from Ted and Marianne Sahlstrom
