Born on January 23, 1924, in Portland, OR to the late Phillip and Bessie May Horstman, Phyllis was a resident of Eugene, OR for sixty-four years. Phyllis will receive Christian burial at: Forest Lawn, 6701 30th Ave. SW, Seattle, WA; Monday, June 29th; funeral at 3:00 PM, viewing at 2:15 PM. Phyllis is preceded in death by her husband of almost sixty-nine years, Elmer Bernard Sahlstrom, and is survived by her daughter, Sherry Linn Sahlstrom; and sons, Gary Bernard Sahlstrom (Karen) and Gregory Lane Sahlstrom (Eloise); by six grandchildren: Christina Monohan Carr, Mike Monohan, David Sahlstrom, Anna Sahlstrom, Peter Sahlstrom, and Albert Sahlstrom; and by four great-grandchildren: Bruce, Andrew and Katie Carr, and Robert Sahlstrom. During an extended academic life, Phyllis earned multiple degrees from the University of Oregon: Bachelor degrees in English and German, a Master of German Literature, with additional credits earned toward a degree in French. She worked as a researcher in the German Department at the University of Oregon. Phyllis loved to travel with Elmer and her family, visiting such exciting places as Acapulco, China, Russia, Israel, Hawaii, London, Paris and Rome. Phyllis received Christian baptism on July 10, 1986, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Denver, CO and was a confirmed member of Central Lutheran Church in Eugene, OR.
