  Her father had lots of friends but was a private person. Never cursed. Was religious in his own way; didn't work on Sunday and his children understood this unwritten rule. His real name was Willy but his wife, Elizabeth, thought it sounded to undignified so always referred to him as Will (or rarely William) and convinced him to do the same.
