Notes
a. Note:   Lt. Philip Nicholas Crewe was a twenty-seven-year-old, low-ranking soldier who murdered the young lieutenant in charge of his platoon. After stealing his uniform and taking command, he, along with others, invaded the Cooke Mansion in Avenwell Bluffs, supposedly to use for a strategic point of advantage as it overlooked the ocean. However, it was only out of greed and envy that he took it, hoping to claim a new identity-that of the billionaire and local Judge, Charles Cooke-grossly underestimating his prey.
He brutally attacked and murdered the lady of the house, Laura McGrath-Cooke. When her husband, Judge Charles Cooke, who was working as a staff officer in the Army, returned to check on his family, he discovered the crime and shot Philip, killing him. The judge, a just and honest man, turned himself in, where he was tried, and taken to the town square, where he was hung.
He still roams the town of Avenwell Bluffs.
His twin sons, at the age of 37, would go on to lynch their mother's cousin and her family.
