Note: ORTHAMPTON CENSUS, BUT DOES NOT TAKE INTO ACCOUNT THE QUESTIONABLE SON, MOSES JESSE, BORN, ACCORDING TO CHARTS CITED BELOW, ABT. 1830. "United States Census, 1830," database with images, FamilySearch(https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:XH59-KBJ : accessed 25 April 2016), Nicklas Musick, Allen, Northampton, Pennsylvania, United States; citing 136, NARA microfilm publication M19, (Washington D.C.: National Archives and Records Administration, n.d.), roll 156; FHL microfilm 20,630. THE NOTES BELOW CONSIST OF TWO RESEARCH PROJECTS BY GENEALOGIST, DICK MUSSELMAN, FOLLOWED BY MY OWN NOTES. MUSSELMAN'S REPORTS ARE LONG BUT CONTAIN VALUABLE INFORMATION SO I HAVE INCLUDED THEM HERE IN FULL, LABELED REPORT 1 AND REPORT 2. AFTER THAT THERE IS SPECIFIC DATA RELATING TO PARENTS AND CHILDREN. REPORT 1 20 May 2011 Dear Neil, The search for Mary Magdalena Musick [Magdalena is not her middle name. It was a concoction that I created many years ago thinking it correct, and numerous researchers on the internet have copied it], wife of Walter Rutman, has been completed. This has included research at the Northampton County Courthouse, County Archives and the Marx Room of the Easton Public Library in Easton as well as the Zion Stone Church in Kreidersville, PA. After you had suggested Mary’s birth date might be found in the records of the Zion Stone Church, I had hoped for a simple search of the church records to verify your information. Unfortunately that was not the case. Beginning in the mid 1700’s, Zion Stone Church in Kreidersville, Allen Township was a union church; the church building provided the worship sanctuary for two distinct congregations. A Lutheran as well as a Reformed congregation shared this building. Currently the Reformed (now known as the United Church of Christ) retain the building while the Lutherans moved a couple of miles south and constructed a new church building. A transcribed set of Stone Church records is available at the Marx Room in Easton, but these records end in the early 1820’s. The later record books are still retained by the churches. I contacted both and spent several hours in Kreidersville reviewing these old books as well as the available cemetery records. Only one Music family baptism was found in the Zion Stone Church records: Sarah Anna, daughter of Nicholas & Catharine Music, b.4 Jan.1820, bapt.20 Feb.1820; Sponsors: John & Catharine Mertz The Stone Church cemetery records provided the following information: Catharine Musick 3 Oct.1793 - 1 Jul.1869 74-8-28 No stone Wife of Nicholas Musick (This is in conflict with the material on her page on FindaGrave.com online which implies there IS a stone. The death date is the same as above but the birth date is 3 Oct 1794. The inscription reads, according to this website, 'Aged 79 Yrs 9 Mo & __ Days.' One assumes the blank is due to illegibility). John Musick 18 Nov.1824 - 9 Aug.1826 1-7-21 No stone Son of Nicholas & Katrina Musick Mary J. Musick 16 Aug.1831 - 10 May 1877 45-8-24 Stone (row V, grave #26) Wife of Monroe Musick No additional Musick baptisms or communion record entries were found in either church book. A search of other local church records in the Allen Township area found no Musick entries. Some were found in the German Reformed Church in Easton and at the Egypt Reformed Church in Whitehall Township, Lehigh Co., but these did not include your Mary Magdalena Musick. A search of Marriage and Death abstracts in local newspapers found an entry in the Easton Argus listing the death of Monroe Musick at Coplay on 10 May 1877, aged 45-8-24. This is a suspicious entry since it provides the same death date and age as the Stone Church cemetery entry for Mary J. Musick, wife of Monroe. The 1830 Federal Census for Allen Township provided the only entry for a Musick family residing in this location: Nichlas Musick 1 male 5-10 1 male 20-30 1 male 40-50 2 females 0-5 1 female 5-10 2 females 10-15 1 female 30-40 Mary Magdalena (Musick) Rutman, b.abt.1818, could have been one of the two females listed in the 10-15 age category in this entry. Since we found no church records to confirm this connection, I next reviewed various courthouse documents. No Deed book, Estate or Orphans Court entries were found for a Nicholas Musick. As a last resort, I searched the Allen Township tax assessment records at the Northampton County Archives and found some very compelling circumstantial evidence. The attached spreadsheet contains the results of this review. Nicholas Musick, shoemaker, first appears in Allen Township in 1817. In most of his later entries he is also assessed for a cow. This suggests children were present in the home. Occasionally in the 1820’s and more regularly in the 1830’s, the assessor was required to list “Poor Children.” These were children for whom the parent could not afford schooling costs. In 1820 Nicholas Musick was listed with one “Poor Child” between the ages of 5-12 years. From 1826 through 1829 Nicholas is listed with at least four additional children in this category. These included: Eliza: b.abt.1816 Mary: b.abt.1817-1818 Sarah: b.abt.1819-1829 Thomas: b.abt.1822 Nicholas Musick is not listed in the Allen Township assessment following his 1835 entry. I could find no evidence of his relocation or his death. Based upon the Stone Church cemetery records, his wife Catharine Musick died on 1 Jul.1869 and has no marker. I was told the existing cemetery records were compiled by reading the stone engravings about 80-90 years ago. It is certainly possible Nicholas Musick’s grave may have been marked by a stone that no longer existed or was legible 100 years after his death. The “Poor Child” entry for Mary Musick, b.abt.1817-1818, matches the age and location criteria of your Mary Magdalena (Musick) Rutman. This is certainly not irrefutable proof, but I believe it is strong circumstantial evidence based upon the fact that no other Musick family has been found residing in this location from 1815 through 1835. Since Nicholas’ wife, Catharine, was buried at Stone Church in 1869, it is logical to assume she most likely remained in the area from 1835 through the time of her death 34 years later. However, a Federal Census search from 1840 through 1860 found no entries for Catharine Musick. Since her cemetery record lists her as Catharine Musick, it is very unlikely she remarried prior to her death and should have appeared under her own name on the 1850 and 1860 Federal Census enumerations. It is also interesting to note that Nicholas Musick was a married resident of Allen Township in 1820 and should have appeared on the census in that year. However, if his family was residing in the household of another, he may have been included in that family’s enumeration. I did not attempt to find the parents of Nicholas Musick. It appears he moved into the Allen Township area in 1817 since no earlier Musick families were identified in the township. It is very possible he may be related to the Musig/Muse/Musick/Music family found in the Jordan and Egypt Church records in Lehigh County. Jpg digital photo files of the relevant Allen Township tax assessment books were copied onto the enclosed CD. I have not yet started the search for your Freyman family. Regards, Dick REPORT 2 1 Mar 2013 The search for information relating to the lineage of the Nicholas Musick family of Allen Township, Northampton Co. lead to visits to the Northampton County Courthouse, Northampton County Archive and Marx Room of the Easton Public Library in Easton as well as the Lehigh County Courthouse and Lehigh County Historical Society in Allentown, PA. The review began with a search of the local church, cemetery and ministerial records listing Musick entries: Jordan Reformed Church - South Whitehall Township, Lehigh Co. Samuel, son of Samuel & Maria Magdalena Muse, b.30 Sep.1765, bapt.1 Oct.1765; Sponsor: Daniel Gros Maria Elisabeth, daughter of Samuel & Dorothea Muse, b.3 Jul.1770, bapt.29 Jul.1770; Sponsors: Peter Loehr, Frantz Warmkessel, Christina Muskewek, Maria Mag. Abraham Blumer, Reformed minister Burials: 15 Feb.1774 - Maria Barbara Muse, daughter of Samuel, 2 yrs. 3 mos. 13 days, Jordan Church. Marriage Records of Rev. Joseph S. Dubs, Reformed minister 3 Jun.1838: Charles Ibach to Sarah Muse, South Whitehall 16 Jan.1853: Charles Muse, South Whitehall to Sarah Herzal, Upper Macungie None of the church or ministerial records provided any references to a Nicholas Musick or wife Catharine. Our previous research found Nicholas first appearing in the Allen Township tax assessments in 1817. This 1817 assessment date suggested a birth year earlier than 1796. The 1830 Federal Census listed his age range to be between 40-50. This calculates to a birth year between 1780 and 1790. Catharine Musick, wife of Nicholas, was listed in the burials at stone church. Catharine’s date of birth was listed as 3 Oct.1793. Her age was reported correctly (30-40 years) on the 1830 Federal Census. I would estimate Nicholas Musick was probably a few years older than his wife and born in the late 1780’s but no later than 1790. This estimate will prove important when attempting to fit him into an earlier Musick family group. I attempted to find where Nicholas Musick may have resided prior to his appearance in Allen Township in 1817. If he was born in 1790 or earlier, he could have been listed on tax assessments as earlier as 1811. He certainly should have been assessed by the mid to late teens. Since the Musick family appeared in the church records in Whitehall Township. I began a tax assessment search of those books at the Northampton County Archive. A David Musick listed from 1799 through 1806 along with an Anthony Musich, single free man appearing in 1801 and remaining on the list through 1811. (See the attached spreadsheet.) South Whitehall Township was formed in 1812 when Lehigh County was separated from Northampton. Anthony Mussig appeared on the South Whitehall Township assessments through 1816. By 1817 there were no Musick entries in the township. (See the attached spreadsheet.) Since this search had still provided no answers concerning the origins of Nicholas Musick, I then searched the list of taxables in each township in the following years: 1803, 1812, 1813, 1816. I was very surprised to find no entry for a Nicholas Musick or any other Musick entries. The search now moved to the Northampton County Register of Wills office and a review of Estate #920 which was opened for Samuel Musig, mason of Whitehall Township. This was an Intestate file (no Will). An Administration Bond was taken on 30 Mar.1780 by the widow, Dorothea Musig of Whitehall Township and Jacob Musgenung and Peter Lehr also of Whitehall Township. An estate Inventory was filed on 28 Mar.1780 and Settlement was entered on 17 Jun.1782. A review of all these documents found no other references to Musick family members or heirs other than the widow. The Jordan Church records suggested both David and Anthony Musick who appeared on the assessment lists were probably the sons of this Samuel and Dorothea Musick. A review of Northampton County Orphans Court File #96, Folder #5904, dated 1780, listed for Samuel Moosick of Whitehall Township, provided some additional information: Book D, page 317 (22 Jun.1780): Two minors, children of Samuel Moosick, above the age of 14 years requested the appointment Guardians. Margaret chose Leonard Steininger of Whitehall. Samuel was unable to chose his own Guardian “…from weakness in his understanding.” George Hoffman of Macungie was appointed. Book E, page 12 (20 Jun.1782): Additional children of Samuel Moosich all under the age of 14 years were listed. The court was petitioned by the widow, Dorothea, the second wife, for the appointment of Guardians for her children. These children included: Elisabeth, David, Anthony, Mary Barbara, Eva Catharina and Mary Salome. Gottfridt Knause and Benedict Neidlinger were appointed Guardians. Book E, page 148 (21 Jun.1788): The eldest son, Samuel, petitioned the court to provide an Inquest on the 150 acre tract of Warrant land in Whitehall Township possessed by his father at the time of his death. This petition listed the following children: Samuel, the petitioner, David, Anthony, Margaret, Elizabeth, Barbara, Catharine and Salome. The Petitioner also stated that the widow, Dorothea, was now married to Andrew Knedler. Book E, page 364 (28 Apr.1795): Dorothea, widow of Samuel Moosick now wife of Andrew Knoedler, petitioned the court for an Inquest. The following children were named: Samuel, eldest son, found to be insane and was appointed commissioners Margaret, wife of George Gramlich David Elizabeth, wife of John Flexer Anthony Barbara Catherine Salome Book 6, page 14 (10 Nov.1795): Report of Inquest Jury and Distribution of property to the widow and 9 shares for eight children (eldest son to receive two shares). Eldest son, Samuel Musick declined to purchase through commissioners Michael Schnyder and Adam Good. Second son, David Musick, accepted the property at the appraised price of £658.8.4. David was required to pay shares to the other heirs within one year. There was still no reference to a Nicholas Musick in any records of this family. It was also troubling that practically no records relating to the grandsons of Samuel Musick were being found. The search continued with a review of Northampton County Recorder of Deed index entries. The following were found and reviewed: Deed Book F1, page 279 Samuel Musick to George Gramlich & Tobias Stoerey both of Weisenberg Township Date: 12 Mar.1788 Description: Two undivided shares in a message, plantation and 150 acre tract of land in Whitehall Township. The property was the estate of Samuel Musick, mason of Whitehall Township who died Intestate leaving a widow Dorothea and eight children: Samuel, David, Anthony, Margret, Elizabeth, Barbara, Catharine and Salome. Deed Book C2, page 569 David Musick, weaver & wife Elisabeth to Peter Dorney Date: 27 Mar.1797 Amount: £152.18.9 Description: 15 acres, 47 perches of land in Whitehall Township originally part of a larger 151½ acre tract named Parnassus, Patented to David Musick on 28 Nov.1796. Recorded in Patent Book #31, page 128. Deed Book C2, page 575 David Musick & wife Elisabeth to Adam Dorney Date: 27 Mar.1797 Amount: £91.17.6 Description: 10½ acres of land in Whitehall Township originally part of a larger 151½ acre tract named Parnassus, Patented to David Musick on 28 Nov.1796. Deed Book C2, page 580 David Musick & wife Elisabeth to John Flexer Date: 27 Mar.1797 Amount: £120.0.0 Description: 15 acres of land in Whitehall Township originally part of a larger 151½ acre tract named Parnassus, Patented to David Musick on 28 Nov.1796. Deed Book C2, page 582 David Musick & wife Elisabeth to George Glick Date: 27 Mar.1797 Amount: £89.14.0 Description: 10 acres, 50 perches of land in Whitehall Township originally part of a larger 151½ acre tract named Parnassus, Patented to David Musick on 28 Nov.1796. Deed Book C3, page 95 Samuel Musik Estate to David Musick Date: 9 Apr.1807 Description: Release of Dower rights Deed Book C3, page 93 David Musick & wife Elisabeth to Adam Good Date: 11 Apr.1807 Amount: $699 Description: 34 acres, 156 perches of land in Whitehall Township originally part of a larger 151½ acre tract named Parnassus, Patented to David Musick on 28 Nov.1796. Deed Book C3, page 94 David Musick & wife Elisabeth to Daniel Good and Philip Steininger Date: 11 Apr.1807 Amount: £400 Description: Two tracts of land: (1) 36 acres, 154 perches; (2) 4 acres, 7 perches of land In Whitehall Township originally part of a larger 151½ acre tract named Parnassus, Patented to David Musick on 28 Nov.1796. The above listed recorded Deeds confirmed the previous entries found in the tax assessments and Orphans court records. After the death of Samuel Musick Sr., his property was eventually conveyed to his second oldest son, David Musick. David acquired a Patent to the property in 1796. He then subdivided the tract into smaller lots which were sold to siblings and others. In 1807 David received a release of Dower rights from his now remarried mother and sold the remaining tracts before removing from the area. The entry that I find most interesting is the earliest in 1788 when Samuel Musick conveys his claim to his father’s estate in Whitehall Township to George Gramlich & Tobias Stoerey. This is no doubt Samuel Musick Jr., eldest son of Samuel Sr. who had died 8 years earlier. The property description mentions the two shares that were given as a legacy to eldest son Samuel Musick Jr. Son David, who acquired the entire property per the Orphans Court record, would then make later payment George Gramlich & Tobias Stoerey rather than his half brother Samuel Jr. This is the same Samuel who had been represented by commissioners during multiple Orphans Court procedures, yet was now involved in a sale of his claim and apparently capable of representing himself. Samuel would have been 23 years old at this time. The Grantees to his two shares included George Gramlich, probably his brother-in-law, husband to his full sister Anna Margaretha. I now had a general overall picture of the local Musick family in the late 1700’s, but Nicholas Musick had not yet been connected. The search now moved to Lehigh County since this was the location of the Musick family in Whitehall Township. The tax assessment records for South Whitehall Township included on the enclosed spreadsheet were found at the Lehigh Co. Historical Society. Unfortunately no Lehigh Co. assessments between 1818 and the mid 1840’s have survived. Less than half of those in the 1840’s through the 1860’s remain. This creates a real problem when attempting to follow families and locate individuals in this time period. A search for the Musick surname in the Lehigh Co. Historical Society collection found no indexed newspaper entries of interest. A family history of the Moose family claimed descendency from the Muse family in Northampton Co. The Muse surname was a predecessor to Musick but I found no obvious connection in these records. The next discovery proved to be very interesting…..Patricia Musick Hornick of Streamwood, Illinois, had donated a copy of Musick Family from Lomersheim, Wurttemberg in Germany to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and Related Lines. This family history was dated 30 Nov. 2011 and included the immigrant Samuel Musse, b. 8 Mar. 1730 in Lomersheim, Wurttemberg, Germany and arrived as a single man in Philadelphia aboard the ship Nancy on 27 Sep.1752. This appears to be the same man who first married Maria Magdalena (nee?) and upon her death married a woman named Dorothea. Ms. Hornick has provided citations and footnotes for her work and has assembled the families per the records I have previously found and listed above. She has also made some assumptions but these have been noted in her work. I find her work to be well presented and documented. The chapter relating to the family of Samuel Misick is attached as well as the chapter about the Musgenung family. Jacob Musgenung, b.abt.1718, also arrived in Philadelphia on the ship Nancy on 27 Sep.1752 along with his 7 year old daughter Dorothea. Dorothea would later become the second wife of Samuel Musick. After Samuel’s death Dorothea married Andreas Knoedler. I would suggest studying the Musick family data provided in the work by Ms. Hornick. On page 60 she lists Nicholas Musick (5iv) as the probable fourth child and oldest son of David and Elizabeth Musick. She provides the following citation [22]: [22] WITTMAN FAMILY AND ALLIED LINES manuscript by Helen Wittman Kohl, 1972, Pennsylvania Historical Society Library in Phila, PA, and FHLC film #874185 item 2. I did not have immediate access to the Wittman Family reference and was not satisfied and not yet willing to accept Nicholas as the son of David and Elizabeth Musick. The review of additional sources in Lehigh Co. was continued at the Lehigh County Courthouse. The estate of Dorothea Knedler of Macungie Township, File #25, was reviewed. This was an Intestate file (no Will) that included the following documents: Letters of Administration: 1813, issued to Anthony Musick Administration Bond: 1813 Inventory & Appraisement: 1813, written in German script, total value: $281.64 Accounting: 2 Sep.1814, $168.29 paid to the estate, heirs not named There is little doubt that this is Dorothea the widow of Samuel Musick with son Anthony Musick serving as the Administrator for her estate. Unfortunately no additional family members were named on any of the documents found in this file. A search of Lehigh County Orphans Court records provided a duplicate Accounting sheet for the Dorothea Knedler file but no additional new information. A review of Lehigh County Recorder of Deeds indexes found several Musick surname entries. These included: Deed Book #3, page 198 David Musick & wife Elisabeth to Michael Sieger Date: 11 Apr.1807 Amount: £61.1.0 Description: 5 acres, 88 perches of land in Whitehall Township originally part of a larger 151½ acre tract named Parnassus, Patented to David Musick on 28 Nov.1796. Recorded in Patent Book #31, page 128. Deed Book #2, page 402 Anthony Musick, Esq. & wife Susannah to Michael Hauser Date: 8 May 1807 Amount: $1,350 Description: 21 acres, 16 perches of land in Whitehall Township. It being the same tract David Musick & wife Elizabeth conveyed unto Anthony Musick on 6 May 1807. Deed Book #23, page 25 Thomas Musick, boatman & wife Maria of North Whitehall to Samuel Laub, cooper of East Allen Township, Northampton Co. mount: $730 Description: 4 acre lot in North Whitehall Township acquired from Charles & Sarah Troxell on 1 Mar.1855. The last Deed entry referencing Thomas Musick may be of interest since it fits the basic criteria for the Thomas, son of Nicholas & Catharine Musick, b.abt.1822 in Allen Township, Northampton Co. The estimated birth year of the Thomas Musick listed on the 1850 Federal Census for Clinton, Indiana was 1823. Another similarity between these entries is the fact that the names of the wives were similar: Maria in North Whitehall and Mariah in Indiana. A third similarity is the use of the given name Monroe. Thomas, son of Nicholas, had a brother named Monroe. Thomas of Indiana had a son named Monroe. I could find no other Thomas Musick listed in the 1850 Federal Census in Pennsylvania or the immediate surrounding states. The Apr.1851 tax assessment for North Whitehall Township did not include any Musick entries. Thomas did appear on the Apr.1852 assessment when he was listed as a tenant owning 1 cow. The next surviving assessment for North Whitehall was not until Nov.1858. Once again, no Musick was listed. This would be consistent with the recorded Deed suggesting he purchased the property in 1855 and probably sold it prior to 1858. His listed occupation as a boatman may have required him to live a migratory lifestyle. Many of the boat owners working the rivers and canals lived upon their vessels. I found no local church records for this family. It is certainly possible the Thomas Musick family living in Indiana in 1850 may have returned to Pennsylvania by 1852. Unfortunately I have no way to verify or positively identify both families as being the same Thomas Musick. The lack of Musick family records for the second generation after Samuel Sr. is frustrating. I believe the general outline presented by Ms. Hornick is correct but I do not agree with the suggestion that Nicholas was the son of David and Elizabeth Musick. I do believe Nicholas is a probably descendant of Samuel Musick Sr.(1730-1780). It has been firmly established that Samuel Musick had three sons: 1. Samuel Musick Jr. (b.30 Sep.1765) with his first wife Anna Magdalena 2. David Musick (b.28 Jul.1773) with second wife Dorothea Musgenung 3. Anthony Musick (b.16 Sep.1775) with second wife Dorothea Musgenung Nicholas Musick’s oldest known child, Elizabeth, was born about 1816; probably about the time Nicholas first appeared in Allen Township. His wife Catherine has a birth year of 1793 listed on her burial records. Catherine’s age is entered correctly on the 1830 Federal Census; if Nicholas’s age is also entered correctly we then know he was born between 1780 and 1790, probably the late 1780’s, closer to the age of his spouse. I believe both David and Anthony Musick were probably too young to be the father of Nicholas born between 1785-1790. Most of the immediate family members of David and Anthony Musick have been established in local records since they remained in the area through the early 1800’s and also owned property. Samuel Musick Jr. is the unknown in this search. Beyond the mention in Orphans Court records and the sale of his shares of his father’s estate in 1788, little if anything is known. I do suspect he may be the father of Nicholas, but have no further proof. Attached is a printout “Descendants of Samuel Musick” that I assembled and used as a research tool when attempting to put the associated families together. Keep in mind that some of the entries on these sheets are not proven. I did not attempt to contact Patricia Hornick. She may have acquired additional information beyond what was included in her Musick history. Please let me know if you have questions on any of the items included in this report. Regards, Dick PARENTS: The source for the maiden name of Nicholas' wife, Catharine, as Zink is from the 26 Mar 1909 Pennylvania State Death Certificate of Harriet Musick Kohl. The source for the bef. 1860 death of Nicholas is the 1860 Allentownship, Northampton, Pennsylvania census. Source Citation: Year: 1860; Census Place: Allen, Northampton, Pennsylvania; Roll: M653_1147; Page: 20; Image: 25; Family History Library Film: 805147. Nicholas' wife, Catharine, is living with grandson, John Rutman, in this census and is listed as widow. CHILDREN: The source for the spouses of Sarah Ann, Katharine, Harriet, and Thomas is the Musick Family Chart from 'Kohl Family & Allied Lines of Pennsylvania, Helen Wittmann Kohl manuscript, Gen: KO3:1, Pennsylvania Genealogical Society. This includes some of the spouse's birth and death information as well as the parents of said spouses. These families for Sarah Ann, Katharine, Harriet, and Thomas were subsequently confirmed and enlarged after consulting the Pennsylvania census records, which are itemized under each indivdual child's family group. An additional source for the births of Henrietta and Sarah Ann are Pennsylvania Church & town Records, Christ Reformed Church, Schoenersville, Lehigh, PA., and Zion Stone Church, Kreidersville, Northampton, Pennsylvania, respectively. The birthdate of Katharine Musick presents some problems. Katharine's Musick Huble's death certificate from Union County, New Jersey states she was born in February of 1837. The informant had the date off by about ten years or it was copied incorrectly, but the month was probably correct, as Katharine is listed on the 1900 census as being born in February, 1827. 1827 is further corroborated, though off by one year, on the Musick Family Chart from 'Kohl Family & Allied Lines of Pennsylvania, Helen Wittmann Kohl manuscript, Gen: KO3:1, Pennsylvania Genealogical Society which lists Katharine's baptism date as 10 Jun 1826, not 1827. No church is listed. The birthdate of 1837 is certianly incorrect as it is far outside of the period in which Nicholas and Catharine Musick were having children. The source for the death and burial date of Harriet Musick Kohl is her obituary in the Allentown Morning Call of March 27, 1909 and her Pennsylvania Death Certificate. The source for the death and burial of Katharine is her obituary in the Allentown Morning Call, Dec, 1912. There is a Musick Family Tree Chart accompanying the Wittmann book cited above (WITTMAN FAMILY AND ALLIED LINES manuscript by Helen Wittman Kohl, 1972, Pennsylvania Historical Society Library in Phila, PA, and FHLC film #874185 item 2) which lists an additional child of Nicholas and Catharine named Moses Jesse born abt. 1830. This child is listed on the chart without source or documentation. He appears in no records found as of 2016, and unless he died unrecorded as an infant, may be spurious.
