Note: s a dead end, and no records have been found connecting him with previous generations. He should not be confused with the George Freyman who lived in Lower Saucon township about the same period. They are two different men. Below is the exhaustive research, first of Dick Musselman, and then of Fran Waite. For those interested in other Freyman lines in Northampton or Bucks County it is valuable reading. For those wishing to connect this George Freyman to previous generations it is just proof that, currently, nothing has been discovered. RESEARCH FROM GENEALOGIST, DICK MUSSELMAN, RECEIVED IN 2011, IS AS FOLLOWS: The search for information on your early Freyman family line in Northampton and Lehigh Counties has included work at the Northampton County Courthouse, County Archives, Marx Room of the Easton Public Library, Easton, PA and the Lehigh County Courthouse and Lehigh County Historical Society in Allentown, PA. A George Freyman estate file was found in the Northampton County Register of Wills office. This file included a Will written in German script and the following documents: Estate File #2866 George Freyman, Lower Saucon Township, 1812 Administrator: Christian Ruch Will: 1812 Letters Testamentory: 1812 Inventory & Appraisement: 1812 Accounting: 1813 Spouse: Sabina This appeared to be the same George Freyman found on the Strausstown Roots website at: http://www.bergergirls.com/getperson.php?personID=I021983&tree=Strausstown However, the website listed his birth/baptism as 1707 in Germany and death in 1790 in Lower Saucon Township. The one similarity was the name of the spouse: Sabina. I contacted a local researcher, a direct descendant who has worked with this family. He said this man is the son of Johannes Ernst Freyman. He was survived by at least four daughters: Anna Maria, Catharine, Margareth and Anna Rosina. He had no sons. The fact that Christian Ruch served as Administrator to the estate suggests there may have been no sons living in 1812. This researcher claimed there was no known connection between this man and the Freyman family in Heidelberg Township. I cannot explain the discrepancy with the information provided on the website. The Oath of Allegiance to the provincial government was taken before Justice Peter Meyer (probably Heidelberg Township area) by the following men: Jacob Freiman - 15 Jul.1777 George Freiman - 15 Jul.1777 John Reinschmit - 22 Aug.1777 An expanded search of tax assessment records for the Freyman and Reinschmidt surnames was conducted in Heidelberg and Whitehall Townships. The new entries were added to the previous spreadsheets provided with earlier research. Updated sheets are attached. A Jacob Freyman is residing in Heidelberg Township by 1780. Multiple Freyman entries are found in Whitehall by the late 1790’s. Since this is a very time consuming search, I did not complete the earlier Whitehall search. There also are earlier Heidelberg documents but these are written in German script and very fragile. This search could be made if needed. It is interesting to note the occupation of ‘mason’ in the Freyman entries in both townships. This is a very specialized trade and strongly suggests this is the same family and possibly the same man. The German word ‘beisitzer’ has a literal translation of assessor or member of a committee. The given name ‘Stoffel/Stophel’ is a shortened form of the name Christopher or sometimes Christian. The George Freyman, father of Michael who was born abt.1780, continues to be an elusive individual. It is possible he was the George Freyman who appears in Whitehall on the 1804 thru 1806 assessments and then in Heidelberg in 1807 and 1808. I suspect the occupation of mason may have caused him to move to other locations where construction projects were available. His immediate family may have remained local while George Freyman and other family members traveled. I did not review the original tax assessment lists for the Freyman entries in Lower Saucon Township. However, the following entries were found listed in the Pennsylvania Archives printed series: 1761 Northampton County Tax Assessments: George Fryman, £14, Lower Saucon Township 1772 Lower Saucon tax list: George Fryman, farmer: £4.0.0 The Pennsylvania Archives 5th Series Vol.1, p.213 provided a list of wagons, draft horses and pack horses available in the townships of Northampton Co. as of 8 Jun.1758. Included on the list: “Lower Socam: George Fryman - 2 pack horses” A search of locally available earlier church records in Bucks Co. did find some Freyman entries: Tohickon Reformed Church - Bedminister Township, Bucks Co. Maria Sophia, daughter of Jacob & Maria Elizabeth Freyman, b.-----, bapt.1 Apr.1750; Sponsors: Christopher Wagner & wife (baptism by Jacob Riess at Saucon) John, son of Frederick & Anna Margaret Frutschy, b.4 Jan.1759, bapt.7 Jan.1759; Sponsors: John Lerch and Eliza Freyman Anna Sabina, daughter of Philip & Magdalena Mann, b.27 Mar.1760, bapt.6 Apr.1760; Sponsors: George Freyman & wife Tobias, son of Pancratius & Anna Maria Lerch, b.15 Mar.1761, bapt.10 May 1761; Sponsors: Philip Baal and Elizabeth Freyman Maria Elizabeth, daughter of Andrew & Mari Grub, b.5 Jun.1761, bapt.5 Jul.1761; Sponsor: Elizabeth Freyman Confirmed at Lower Saucon by Rev.John Egidius Hecker (1756-1760): Elizabeth Freyman on Pentecost 1757 Jacob Mayer married Eliz. Freyman on 1 Dec.1761 “Bucks Co. Tax Records (1693-1778)” compiled by McNealy & Waite, 1982, Bucks County Historical Society, contained no Freyman entries. The absence of Freyman entries in the Bucks County tax assessments and with the Tohickon Church records referencing Saucon and Lower Saucon for the location of the Freyman family entries; I believe this suggests the above Tohickon entries were for the George Freyman family of Lower Saucon Township. The early ministers of the Tohickon congregation were also serving small churches and families in Northampton County. The records of those services were then recorded in the Tohickon record book. The private records of Rev. John Helffrich contained the following Freyman entry: Friedrich Kämmerer married Mariga Freymann at Heidelberg on 3 Jul.1808 The records of Schlosser’s Church, Unionville, Neff’s, North Whitehall Township included the following: Michael, son of George Freyman & wife, b.-----, bapt.27 Mar.1780; Sponsors: Theobald Herzog & wife RESEARCH FROM GENEALOGIST, FRAN WAITE, WHO RESEARCHED BUCKS COUNTY AND RECEIVED IN 2011, IS AS FOLLOWS: 15 Apr 2013 Neil Rutman 1705 Summerbrook Dr. Conway, AR 72034 neilr@uca.edu <mailto:neilr@uca.edu> Dear Neil; It is time to send the report of my Freymann / Freeman search in Bucks County and nearby records. First, I can see why you were confused by the email report I sent earlier. Initially I thought that George Freymann died in 1790, and that a second one died in 1812. So, I was excited that perhaps I had found something. However, some have assumed that this is all the same man - lived to be at least 105 years old ! ? George born in 1707, immigrant to Pennsylvania in 1739, aged 33, settled in Lower Saucon, acquired land in 1744 and 1751 (Patented by his son-in-law C. Ruch in 1812), make his will 1790, his wife died 1802, and had his estate settled by C. Ruch in 1812/1813! There are Welsh Baptist Freeman families in the Hilltown, New Britain and Warwick Township areas of Bucks County in the late 1700s. The Surnames of Jones, Thomas, etc. are connected with those Congregation - and mirror to a degree the Richard, William Edward and Isaac Freeman connections with in the Plainfield (William) Lower Saucon (Richard, Edward and Isaac). Interestingly they associate with Lerch, Laubach, in the Lower Saucon Reformed Church. Lerch, Laubach, Ruch are neighbors to the 1744 & 1751 land acquired by George Freyman / Freeman. I agree with Dick Musselman that the records in the Tohickon were very likely for people who lived in the Saucon area of what is now Northampton County. There is more that could searched in the Bucks, Montgomery, Philadelphia and Berks County area for your George and Michael. However, that does not appear to be the best approach. Bottom Line - In this search I did not fine anything in Bucks County which appears connected to your family of Michael Freyman, born c1780, son of George and wife Freyman, and baptized at Schlosser’s North Whitehall Township, Lehigh County. Suggest that you make sure everything is checked for all possible clues for your George and Michael Freeman in the upper Lehigh Valley area, including the associated families. Further research as follows from my notes: Research Notes Bucks County area Freyman(n) / Freeman / Freiman(n) Lower Saucon Township is on the Bucks /Northampton County line. It is adjacent to Springfield Township and near Durham Township along the County line. The pastors in the Colonial era and into the 1800s served four to six churches. The church records frequently were recorded by the pastor at his home base. Tohickon Reformed Church in Bedminster Township, Bucks County begun about 1743 includes records from as far away as Heidelberg Township in Lehigh County. There are also churches in Bucks and nearby counties that conrain records for the Lehigh Valley, including Saucon. Some families have baptisms of their children in three or four church records - although the family always lived in the same house and location. NOTE: If George Freyman was born in 1707, He would have been 83 when he made his will in 1790 and 105 years old when his will was proved in 1812! Dick Musselman - A Freyman Family Genealogist in the Lehigh Valley claimed that George was the son of Johannes Ernst Freyman. Children of Johann Georg and Anna Savina (Lerch) Freymann: These are the ones named in his will - it may or may not be a complete list of his heirs. 1. GEORGE FREYMAN- born before 1760 ?1777 Revolutionary War era Oaths of Allegiance to the provincial government was taken before Justice Peter Meyer (probably Whitehall / Heidelberg Township area): Jacob Freiman - 15 Jul.1777 George Freiman - 15 Jul.1777 ?? late 1777 George Freyman appears in Northampton County [Above source?] 1780 Michael, baptized in Schlossers Church, North Whitehall, Northampton Multiple Freyman entries are found in Whitehall by the late 1790’s. It is interesting to note the occupation of ‘mason’ in the Freyman entries in both townships. This is a very specialized trade and strongly suggests this is the same family and possibly the same man. Children of Geroge Freyman and wife: 1. MICHAEL FREYMAN born c 1780. Schlosser’s Church, Unionville, Neff’s, North Whitehall Township Michael, son of George Freyman & wife, b.-----, bapt.27 Mar.1780; Sponsors: Theobald Herzog & wife Dick Musselman - “George Freyman, father of Michael who was born abt.1780, continues to be an elusive individual. It is possible he was the George Freyman who appears in Whitehall on the 1804 thru 1806 assessments and then in Heidelberg in 1807 and 1808. I suspect the occupation of mason may have caused him to move to other locations where construction projects were available. His immediate family may have remained local while George Freyman and other family members traveled.” Reinsmith and Freyman families resided in Heidelberg Township no marriage found for - Michael Freyman and Maria Reinschmidt. It is possible Maria was the Mary listed in the Orphan Court files of John Reinschmidt in 1787. She probably was youngest daughter since the other daughters were already married when the father died and Maria was yet a minor. Children of Michael and Maria (Reinschmidt) Freyman: 1. HESTER / HETTY FREYMAN born c1810 -- Schlosser’s Church, Unionville, Neff’s, North Whitehall Township Benjamin, illegitimate son of Benjamin Sauerwein and Hetty Freyman, b.30 Apr.1838, bapt.13 May1838; Sponsor: Mike Freyman, grandfather -- ?
