Note: PARENTS: The source for the reconstruction of the Robert Johnson family is the 1880 Lawrence County, Ohio census, 1880; Census Place: Lawrence, Lawrence, Ohio; Roll: 1039; Family History Film: 1255039; Page: 231A; Enumeration District: 093; Image: 0456. The 1900 census (Year: 1900; Census Place: Lawrence, Lawrence, Ohio; Roll: 1292; Page: 6A; Enumeration District: 0070; FHL microfilm: 1241292) was also consulted, which gave the birthdate of Robert Johnson as Dec 1848, confirmed that he was widowed by 1900, that his three adult children, James, Mary, and William were still living with him, and lists a 10 month old granddaughter, Hazel Johnson, born in Dec 1899, living under his roof. The record does not indicate whose child she is. The 1910 census was also consulted (Source Citation: Year: 1910; Census Place: Lawrence, Lawrence, Ohio; Roll: T624_1202; Page: 3A; Enumeration District: 0084; ; FHL microfilm: 1375215) which has Robert Johnson living with a Sarah, to whom he had been married two years according to the report. There is also a Robert Johnson Jr living them listed as son. It is on this single authority that I have added Robert Johnson Jr as a child in this family. It is perplexing that he was not listed on the 1900 census as an 18 year old, though he may have been farmed out to another family as a workhand.
Take note that according to the documents Robert and Emily had their first child, Alexander Burr Johnson in 1869 and were not married until 1871. This contradiction is confirmed by the obituary of Alexander Burr Johnson from the Ironton Tribune, Feb 12, 1951 which states his birthdate as Dec 25, 1869 (an error?) and the marriage record from 1871 below:

The source for the birth of Robert and Emily's first child, Alexander Burr Johnson, is Alexander's Feb 12, 1951 Ironton Tribune obituary, in which his birthdate is listed as 25 Dec, 1869, making it about two years before the marriage of his parents. This could be a misrecollection from the informant for his obituary or a glitch in family planning.
The source for the marriage of Robert Johnson Jr to Lucy Massie is Ohio, County Marriages, 1789-1994. Reference number: p460 cn5881 film number: 317724 digital folder number: 004016338 image number: 00583. Here the mother of Robert Jr is listed as Emily McKnight. The document is also the source for the birth date and place of Lucy, and the names of her parents.

The obituaries from the Ironton Tribune of Alexander Burr Johnson (Feb 12 1951) and Garnet SImpson Johnson (Jan 19 1958) provided their birthdates, dates of death and place and date of burial, married names of the spouses for Lillian, Thelma, and Leona, and the prior to 1951 date of death for Leona.

Aldie is listed as the daughter of Robert Johnson and Anna McKnight. I believe Anna may be a nickname for Emily, or simply an error in entrance. As there are no Robert Johnsons in Lawrence County married to an Anna during this period, I believe Anna McKnight is the same person as Emily McKnight. Emily McKnight was also referred to as Emma McKnight on the 1901 marriage certificate of her son, James Thomas.
