  PARENTS:
The source for the dates and location of the birth and death of Henry Knecht is from his Pennsylvania State Death Certificate obtained from the Northampton County Court records.
The source for Magdalena's maiden name and father are annotations on the records of the German Reformed Cemetery, Easton, PA. www.geocities.com/heartland/6508/LEHIGH.htm
  CHILDREN:
Baptism dates for Samuel, Rebecca Ann, Catharine, Matilda, and Richard Lewis are from baptismal records of Plainfield Reformed Church, Plainfield, Northampton Co, Pennsylvania. For supplementary sources see notes under their own pages.
The death date for Richard Lewis comes from the Argus Extracts held at the Marx Room of the Easton Library, Northampton, Pennsylvania.
Month and year for the birth of Susanah is from the 1900 census, Bushkill, Northampton, Pennsylvania, Roll T623_1446, Roll 10B, enumeration district 102 and from her obit in the Easton Sentinel/Express 31 Jan 1927. For supplementary sources see notes under their own pages.
Month and year for the birth of Elizabeth Knecht is from the 1900 census, Moore, Northampton, Pennsylvania, Roll T623_1447, pg 5B, enumeration district 121. The date of death is from an undocumented entry on ancestry.com. For supplementary sources see notes under their own pages.
The marriage dates and wives for William Henry come from "The Knecht Family History 1702-1986", pg. 228, by Linda Klosek, 1986, held in the Easton Public Library, and from pg. 147 of the 1987 Addendum to that work.
Some researchers have overlook Louisa and Thomas as being included in this family. They are clearly listed as children of Henry and Magdalena on the 1850 Bushkill, Northampton census cited above, appearing as 2 and 0 years old. The fact that neither Louisa or Thomas appear on the 1860 census cited above among the other children as either 12 or 10 years old respectively implies that they died as children.
There is a Thomas L Knecht buried in the Forks cemetery in Northampton County 18 Sept 1853 with an unknown birthdate. It is not possible at present to connect this Thomas with the son of Henry and Magdalena. http://www.findagrave.com/cgi-bin/fg.cgi?page=gr&GSln=Knecht&GSfn=Thomas+&GSbyrel=all&GSdyrel=all&GSst=40&GScnty=2288&GScntry=4&GSob=n&GRid=31522237&df=all&
The discovery of the marriage of Samuel to Mary was instigated by the obituary of his sister Catharine Knecht from the Allentown Morning Call, Dec 24, 1906, which stated that she was survived by a brother, Samuel, who lived in Michigan. Upon checking the 1880 and 1900 Michigan census, a Samuel Knecht, born in 1837 in Pennsylvania, was found married to Mary A. Samuel's death certificate was subsequently found that confirmed this Samuel was the son of Henry and Lena Knecht. The source for his marriage to Mary in Bucyrus, Crawford County, Ohio is from an 1870 census record which lists Samuel and Mary Knecht as a 33 year old married couple. This location for a marriage would fit in with the ever westward migration of Samuel, and Mary's birthplace listed in the 1900 and 1910 census as Ohio. Some problems and contradictions lie in the fact that they are listed as both age 33 in 1870 when Mary was about 8 years younger (error?), and that the 1900 census states they had been married 19 years (abt. 1871), and the 1870 census finds them already married and living together, though without children. Perhaps the marriage was very late in 1870. For supplementary sources see notes under their own pages.
Source for Susan's marriage to John Rissmiller is the 1900 Pennsylvania census in which John and Susan Rissmiller reside in Bushkill, PA with a Henry Knecht , age 86 (b. 1814) living with them. Roll T623-1446, pg 10B. The middle initial L. comes from this document. The source for the death and burial of Susannah Knecht is from the Easton Express/Easton Times Jan 31, 1927. For supplementary sources see notes under their own pages.
The source for the marriage of George comes from the Argus Extracts, held at the Marx Room of the Easton Library, Northampton, Pennsylvania. For supplementary sources see notes under their own pages.
The source for the marriage of Levin Andrew comes from the Argus Extracts, held at the Marx Room of the Easton Library, Northampton, Pennsylvania. For supplementary sources see notes under their own pages.
The source for the deaths of children Matilda and George is the Northampton County Miscellaneous Deed Book, # 45, pp. 125-128. This document was the settling of the estate of Henry Knecht, and at its writing in 1905 lists four of his children as being already deceased- Matilda, Rebecca, William, and George. Subsequent research has shown a definite death date and burial location for Matilda Elizabeth, entered herein from Ancestry.com. Web: Pennsylvania, Find A Grave Index, 1682-2012 [database on-line]. Provo, UT, USA: Ancestry.com Operations, Inc., 2012. Original data: Find A Grave. Find A Grave. http://www.findagrave.com/cgi-bin/fg.cgi: accessed 28 January 2013. Subsequent research also verified the death and burial location of George Peter, entered herein by finding his headstone in the Plainfield cemetery in Wind Gap, Northampton, Pennsylvania. For supplementary sources see notes under their own pages.
