Notes
a. Note: s living as a widow with daughter Minnie. On the 1910 census Minnie's age would put her birthdate at 1864, very close to Amanda's, and Minnie could actually be a nickname for Amanda. The 1920 census gives the birthdate for Minnie as 1868, but as there are other errors on this census listing for the family, this may be incorrect. Without further research it is impossible to tell whether Amanda and Minnie are the same person or two separate daughters. Dec 2012
Subsequent to the note above, the reasoning for connecting Amanda Ludwig with Arminette Cassady and Minnie Ludwig was clarified by distant cousin Warren Ludwig in an e mail Nov, 2013:
"1.) Connecting Amanda Ludwig (daughter of William) to Arminette Cassady: The 1900, 1910, 1920 & 1930 censuses list the mother residing in the home as Saletha Ludwig (the name is mispelled on a couple of the censuses but its the same mother). So I couldn't believe that there would be two Saletha/Seletha Ludwigs that were the same age and born in Pa running around. That's got to be a pretty rare first name - I never heard it before. Now, on the 1900 Census, the daughter is listed as Arminette. On the 1870 census she is listed as Amanda. On all the others she listed as Minnie. I'm sure Minnie is a nickname, but I don't know is Arminette and Amanda are first and middle names or vise versa or if Amanda was just a mistake made by the 1870 census taker. I don't know that part of it."
By the 1900 census Arminette was widowed.
The marriage date of Thomas and Amanda is calculated based on the birth of first child, Emma Cassady in Apr of 1883 from the 1900 New Jersey census.   CHILDREN:
The source for the birth month and year of each child is the 1900 New Jersey census, Source Citation: Year: 1900; Census Place: Harrison Ward 2, Hudson, New Jersey; Roll: 972; Page: 6A; Enumeration District: 0018; FHL microfilm: 12409
The source for the birthdate and location of Edna is "New Jersey, Births and Christenings, 1660-1980," index, FamilySearch (https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.1.1/FCP5-SMV : accessed 23 Dec 2013), Amanda Ludwig in entry for Cassidy, 22 Aug 1889. The 1889 entry is for an unnamed female born to a Thomas Cassady and Amanda Ludwig. As this year matches the 1889 entry of birth for Edna found on the 1900 census this info has been connected with Edna. By connection this is the only source for Thomas as the name of the father of this family and one of the few times Arminette or Minnie used Amanda as a first name.
The source for the birthdate of Franklin E Cassady is his World War I Draft Registration Card, Source Citation: Registration State: New Jersey; Registration County: Hudson; Roll: 1712199; Draft Board: 4.
The source for the birthdate of Emma is "New Jersey, Births and Christenings, 1660-1980," index, FamilySearch (https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.1.1/FZH3-JF3 : accessed 23 Dec 2013), Thomas Cassidy in entry for Emma L. Cassidy, 08 Apr 1882. On this record the father's age is listed as 22 and the mother's age as 20. This is the source for the age of Thomas Cassidy.
The source for the birth location of the first three children as Newark, Essex, New Jersey is from the birth records of Emma and Edna, cited above. I have assumed that the child in between them, Cora, was also born in Newark, but have hesitated to add that location to the fourth and fifth child without documentation, though they also were probably born in Newark, Essex, New Jersey.
The source for the children of Thomas and Amanda "Minnie" is the 1900 Hudson County, New Jersey census. Amanda is already widowed. Source Citation: Year: 1900; Census Place: Harrison Ward 2, Hudson, New Jersey; Roll: 972; Page: 6A; Enumeration District: 0018; FHL microfilm: 1240972.
The source for the married names of the daughters of Thomas and Minnie is a listing on FindaGrave.com online. This gives Minnie's 1943 headstone death data from the Fairmount cemetery in Essex County, New Jersey, accompanied by a blurb that sounds like, but is not quoted as, an extract from an obituary- "wife of the late Thomas, mother of Mrs Emma Ryerson, Mrs Ethel Bein, Mrs Edna Curtis and Miss Cora Cassaday."
