Notes
a. Note: PARENTS: The source for the reconstruction of the Oscar Ludwig family up to the child Laura is the 1900 Pennsylvania census listing, Source Citation: Year: 1900; Census Place: Easton Ward 3, Northampton, Pennsylvania; Roll: T623_1447; Page: 2B; Enumeration District: 127.
The 1910 census was consulted for the children born between 1901 and 1910. Source Citation: Year: 1910; Census Place: Easton Ward 2, Northampton, Pennsylvania; Roll: T624_1381; Page: 11A; Enumeration District: 0071; Image: 62; FHL Number: 1375394.
In this census the daughter born around 1900 is called Evelyn, and not Laura, which was the daughter born in Oct 1899 on the 1900 census. It is not possible for me to state if these are two different daughters born very close to each other and one may have perished by the 1910 census, or that the infant daughter Laura was called by that name in 1900, and called Evelyn in 1910 due to having two names. The source for the last son, Richard, is the 1920 Pennsylvania census, at which time a grandaughter, Elizabeth K Lee, age 4, was living or visiting with them.   CHILDREN:
The problem with the birthdates of the first two chlidren, Charles and Catharine, is obvious; Both dates come from consulting the original Pennsylvania State Death Certificates for both of them, but they could not have been born one month apart in 1893. I have not searched further to ascertain the exact birthdates but Charles is the oldest to Catharine by one year based on the 1900 and 1910 census records.
The source for the death of Lillie Ludwig, who evidently never married, is the Social Security Death Index. Source Citation: Number: 197-26-6843; Issue State: Pennsylvania; Issue Date: 1951. Source Information: Ancestry.com. U.S., Social Security Death Index, 1935-Current [database on-line]. Provo, UT, USA: Ancestry.com Operations Inc, 2011. Original data: Social Security Administration. Social Security Death Index, Master File. Social Security Administration.
Lillie's obituary from the 26 May, 1981 Easton Express gives her birthdate as 1 March, 1894.
The source for the marriage of Royce Ludwig and maiden name of Mary is the 1940 Pennsylvania census "United States Census, 1940," index and images, FamilySearch (https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.1.1/K4YF-T17 : accessed 22 Nov 2013), George Ludwig in household of Royce Ludwig, Ward 2, Phillipsburg, Phillipsburg Town, Warren, New Jersey, United States; citing enumeration district (ED) 21-25, sheet 5A, family 93, NARA digital publication of T627, roll 2392. In this record Royce's brother in law, George Moule, is living with this family.
The source for the birth month and death date and place of Royce Ludwig is the Social Security Index.
The source for the marriage of Walter to Edna is their appearance on the 1920, 1930, and 1940 New Jersey census across the river (in Phillipsburg, Warren, New Jersey) from the home of his father in Easton, Pennsylvania. On these census records the birth year for Walter is consistently 1898.
The source for the 'bef. 1930' death of Charles is his non appearance as a surviving son of Oscar in his 21 Feb 1930 obituary in the Easton Express referred to below. As all daughters are identified in the obituary and there is no mention of Laura, she also has been given the 'bef. 1930' death date.
Subsequent research has found the source for the death of Charles to be his Pennsylvania State Death Certificate. He is listed as single and his death was caused by accidental drowning when the vehicle he was driving drove off the road into a canal. Ancestry.com. Pennsylvania, Death Certificates, 1906-1944 [database on-line]. Provo, UT, USA: Ancestry.com Operations, Inc., 2014. Original data: Pennsylvania (State).   The source for the early death of Horace is his Pennsylvania State Death Certificate. The informant is 'Mrs. Horace Ludwig' which indicates that Horace was married at the time of his early death. He was killed by abdominal crushing between two railroad cars. Provo, UT, USA: Ancestry.com Operations, Inc., 2014. Original data: Pennsylvania (State). Death certificates, 1906–1944. Series 11.90 (1,905 cartons). Records of the Pennsylvania Department of Health, Record Group 11. Pennsylvania Historical and Museum Commission, Harrisburg, Pennsylvania.
The source for the marriage of Catharine to George Ahart was finding her married name, Mrs. Katharine Ahart, in the 21 Feb 1930 obituary of Oscar Ludwig in which she is listed as living in the Easton area. A Catharine Ahart, of the correct age and born in Pennsylvania, was found married to a George Ahart on the 1920 census living in Warren County right across the river from Easton. Source Citation: Year: 1920; Census Place: Phillipsburg Ward 4, Warren, New Jersey; Roll: T625_1073; Page: 4B; Enumeration District: 172; Image: 281. The exact birth and death dates come from the SS Death Index.
This union was verified, with several details filled out and sourced, by several Family Tree citations on Ancestry.com. While this is not a great place to obtain data, when it is sourced and verifies already researched information I have allowed it here.
The source for the marriage of Mary Ludwig to Walter Cawley was finding her married name, Mrs. Walter Cawley, in the 21 Feb 1930 obituary of Oscar Ludwig in which she is listed as living in the Easton area. A Mary Cawley, of the correct age and born in Pennsylvania, was found married to a Walter Cawley on the 1930 census. Source Citation: Year: 1930; Census Place: Glendon, Northampton, Pennsylvania; Roll: 2087; Page: 2A; Enumeration District: 0060; Image: 969.0; FHL microfilm: 2341821. The exact birth and death dates come from the SS Death Index.

The reasoning for the inclusion of daughter Evelyn, which at one time I felt might be another name for daughter Laura was given in a Nov, 2013 e mail from distant cousin Warren Ludwig:
"Could Evelyn and Laura Ludwig (daughters of Oscar) be the same person: I believe for now that they are two different people. The main reason for this is the 1910 Census that states that Oscar & Cora had eleven children and ten were living. The eleven children I have listed before 1910 would be: Charles, Catherine, Helen, Lillian, Walter, Laura, Evelyn, Horace, Mary, Dorothy & Royce. Now, if I combined Evelyn and Laura into one child I would be a kid short of that eleven. It is a possibility that Oscar & Cora could have had a child after 1900 that died before 1910. That would make it possible to say Laura and Evelyn are the same and get the total of eleven, but for now I say that Laura (born in 1899 as per 1900 census) and Evelyn (born 1900 as per SSI index) are two different siblings who were born a year apart and Laura had died before the 1910 Census was taken." Nothing is known at present (2013) of the history of Laura Ludwig.
The source for the marriage of Evelyn to Dayton Joseph Harmon was finding her married name, Mrs. D. J. Harmon, in the 21 Feb 1930 obituary of Oscar Ludwig in which she is listed as living in the Easton area. An Evelyn Harmon without husband, of the correct age and born in Pennsylvania, was found on the 1930 census. Source Citation: Year: 1930; Census Place: Easton, Northampton, Pennsylvania; Roll: 2087; Page: 10A; Enumeration District: 0046; Image: 483.0; FHL microfilm: 2341821. The exact birth and death dates come from the SS Death Index.

Helen Ludwig is referred to as Mrs Helen Lee of Brooklyn, New York in the 1930 obituary of Oscar Ludwig. In addition there is a four year old (b. 1916) Elizabeth K Lee living with Oscar and family on the 1920 census listed as granddaughter- obviously a child of Helens, though she is not present on this census. All attempts at present (2013) to locate Helen Lee and husband (with daughter Helen K Lee) in Brooklyn on the 1930 census have failed.\
The source for the death of Richard Ludwig is his obituary in the Allentown Morning Call, 28 June, 1986. Richard Ludwig may have never married. His in the Morning Call mentions no wife or children:
June 28, 1986, The Morning Call
"Richard "Bud" Ludwig, 70, of Easton, died Wednesday in Phillipsburg.
He was employed at the former Easton Sanitary Milk Co. for 35 years until retiring in 1959.
Born in Easton, he was a son of the late Oscar and Cora (Herster) Ludwig.
Surviving are a brother Royce of Phillipsburg and three sisters, Evelyn Harman of Easton, Dorothy Boehm of Washington, N.J., and Mary Cawley of Nazareth."
The source for the 'aft. 1930' marriage of Dorothy Ludwig and Irwin Boehm is based on Dorothy being referred to as 'Miss Dorothy Ludwig' in the February 21, 1930 obituary of her father, Oscar Ludwig. She is referred to as Mrs. Dorothy Boehm in the 1980 obituary of her sister, Mary Ludwig Cawley, and Mrs. Irwin Boehm in the 1980's obituary of her sister, Miss Lillian Ludwig. Both of these obituaries list her as residing in Washington, New Jersey. As there are a few Washingtons in New Jersey, the educated guess for location would be Washington township, Warren County across the Delaware River from her birthplace of Easton, Pennsylvania.
After making a search on Public Members Family Trees on Ancestry.com I found the unsourced family tree of rshields2 with an Erwin Boehm married to a Dorothy of unknown last name with the same dates as Dorothy Ludwig, living in the same locations mentioned in the obituary cited above.
No marriage or census record has been found for this couple.
The birth year of Irwin is calculated based on the marriage date. His birthplace is an educated guess based on Dorothy's town of birth and their presumed residence in Washington, Warren County, New Jersey.
