Notes
a. Note:   PARENTS: The source for the reconstruction of the family of Lorenzo Dow Martin is the 1870 Hardin County, Illinois census, Source Citation: Year: 1870; Census Place: Monroe, Hardin, Illinois; Roll: M593_228; Page: 27A; Image: 57; Family History Library Film: 545727, and the 1880 Hardin County, Illinois census, Source Citation: Year: 1880; Census Place: Monroe, Hardin, Illinois; Roll: 211; Family History Film: 1254211; Page: 401B; Enumeration District: 031; Image: 0805.
Further filling out of the family of Lorenzo and Sarah is from the Isaac and Josephine Martin Family Bible. Digital copies of the pages are in the possession of Neil Rutman (2012). The 1864 marriage of Lorenzo and Sarah is from the pages of this Bible, as are their birthdates, death dates, and states of birth.
There is an interesting but unresolved entry in this Bible in the person of Alice Martin, born 30 May 1857 and died 25 Sept 1859. The dates are clearly legible and undisputable. This Alice may be a daughter of Lorenzo Dow Martin from a previous undiscovered marriage during the fifties, either in Ohio or Hardin County, Illinois (he was 36 at the time of his 1864 marriage to Sarah Clarke Barr) or, less likely, she could be a sibling or relation to Isaac Martin, the husband of Josephine Barr, Sarah's daughter by her first marriage.
Lorenzo Dow Martin residing inHardin County Illinois was listed as unmarried in 1863 on this Civil War Draft registration card, but the listing as his birthplace in Lawrence County, Ohio gives proof that this person is the son of William and Nancy Martin.   CHILDREN:
The source for the information on the children of Lorenzo and Sarah is from the Isaac and Josephine Martin Family Bible. Digital copies of the pages are in the possession of Neil Rutman (2012). This record includes their middle names, birth and, in some cases, death dates, burial dates, and locations. Additional information was taken from the 1870 and 1880 Hardin County, Illinois census. The Martin Bible pages are also the source for date of marriage and names of spouses of each child.
Augusta is called Gustie on the 1880 census. We find her married and mother Sarah Martin residing with her in Macfarlan, Hardin, Illinois on the 1900 census. This census confirms the marriage to Samuel Williams, the date of their marriage, and months of their births.
