a. Note:   sted on the 1860 census as age seven, but does not appear on the 1870 census with the family of Abraham Ludwig, nor does he appear in the county living elsewhere, or on a national search. However, Austin is listed in the 1909 biography referred to in the notes of brother, Ephraim Ludwig. While listing the siblings of Ephraim Ludwig we read, "Emmeline, unmarried, at Hancock, Ohio; Austin, also of the same place. I have been unable to find an Austin Ludwig in Ohio on either the 1900 or 1910 census, but while he is nowhere to be found between 1860 and this 1909 reference, it seems he survived into adulthood.
  The Ohio obituary for his sister, Emmeline Ludwig from the 28 June, 1918 Medina Gazette, states that she was survived by four unnamed sisters and one unnamed brother. As Francis and Charles had both died prior to 1918, this means that either Henry or Austin were alive in 1918.
  The obituary from the Greenville Evening Record 22 March, 1921 of sibling Eliza Anna Heile states that she was survived by only one brother, which at the time of this writing could be either Henry or Austin.
