Notes
a. Note:   900 CENSUS STATES THAT LOVINIA HAD GIVEN BIRTH TO EIGHT CHILDREN OF WHOM FIVE WERE LIVING IN 1900.
The reconstruction of the family of Francis Ludwig is from the following census records:
Source Citation: Year: 1860; Census Place: West Salem, Mercer, Pennsylvania; Roll: M653_1140; Page: 854; Image: 382; Family History Library Film: 805140.
1870 Coles, Illinois census finds the family of Charles 'Ludwick' with wife Levina and daughters Pheba (Phoebe), Ann, and Laura living in Charleston.
Source Citation: Year: 1880; Census Place: West Salem, Mercer, Pennsylvania; Roll: 1156; Family History Film: 1255156; Page: 592B; Enumeration District: 235; Image: 0298. Francis was back in Pennsylvania in spite of two of his children being born in Illinois in earlier decades.
Source Citation: Year: 1900; Census Place: Dallas, Polk, Oregon; Roll: 1351; Page: 12B; Enumeration District: 0173; FHL microfilm: 1241351.
The source for the exact birth and death dates of Lavinia is a note on her page on FindaGrave.com. It is either from a burial record or some other document (the photo of the stone does not have this) but it reads, 'Birth: Nov. 21, 1839 Indiana, USA Death: May 9, 1916 age 76y5m18d b/Indiana.
The source for the death of Francis and Lavinia (called Lovina) Ludwig are their headstones in the Dallas Cemetery, Dallas, Polk, Oregon.
The source for the maiden name of Lavinia is the Pennsylvania State Death Certificate no. 57894 of daughter Laura E Martin. The certificate states Lavinia's birth state as Illinois, not Indiana.
  CHILDREN:
Emma Ludwig was still single on the 1910 Polk County census at age 38, and living with her parents in Oregon just prior to her 1910 marriage to Wilbur Hughes.
The source for the marriage of William Martin and Laura Ludwig is the 1900 Ohio census in which Laura's sister, Emma, is living with the couple. Laura and Emma's birthplaces are both listed as Illinois. Source Citation: Year: 1900; Census Place: Vernon, Trumbull, Ohio; Roll: 1325; Page: 1A; Enumeration District: 0117; FHL microfilm: 124132
The search for the marriage of Emma logically took one to Polk County, Oregon- the location to which her parents had moved by 1900 and where they died between 1912 and 1916. A record for an Emma Ludwig marrying Wilbur Lee Hughes was found in Polk County, Oregon, in 1905. "Oregon, Marriages, 1853-1935," index, FamilySearch (https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.1.1/F8WR-HMJ : accessed 09 Mar 2014), Wilber Lee Hughs and Emma Ludwig, 15 Jun 1910.
This seemed the logical marriage for Emma and was confirmed by finding Wilbur and Emma Hughes on the 1920 Polk County, Oregon census where Emma's birthplace is Illinois. Source Citation: Year: 1920; Census Place: Dallas, Polk, Oregon; Roll: T625_1497; Page: 1B; Enumeration District: 382; Image: 565.
The source for the marriage of Phoebe is finding her living next door to her parents with husband Charles Rice and family. Source Citation: Year: 1900; Census Place: Dallas, Polk, Oregon; Roll: 1351; Page: 12B; Enumeration District: 0173; FHL microfilm: 1241351. This is the source for the birth months of Phoebe and Charles and the location of Charles' birth.
