Subsequently Eliza Ann Ludwig was found on an online site at MyTrees.com. http://www.mytrees.com/newanc/Pennsylvania/Born-1844/Lu/Ludwig-family/Eliza-Ludwig-nssar1-3115.html . This site listed a daughter, Irene Gardner, as per the 1880 census listed above, and the name of John Wesley Gardner as husband with dates of birth and death. This information was confirmed on the Public Member Family Tree of RogerLander13 on Ancestry.com. Both sites are unsourced, but it is on this information that I give the name of John Wesley Gardner as the husband of Eliza Ludwig. The Family Tree on Ancestry is also the source for the birth and death information on Irene Gardner.
Eliza married a second time based on a clue found in a 1909 biography of her brother, Ephraim Ludwig, from 'The History of Mercer County, pp. 681-682, 1909 is to be believed. When listing the siblings of Ephraim we read, "Eliza, wife of A. Heil, a farmer of Transfer, Pennsylvania (now deceased).
Eliza is found with husband Aaron Heile on the 1900 census on which the name is transcribed 'Hule.' Eliza is listed as the mother of two children of which both are living in 1900. This must refer to both Irene Gardner from her first marriage and the child, Ralph Heile, residing with them on this 1900 census. This document is the source for the birth year and location of Aaron and the 1884 year of their marriage.
