Note: lla Martin, including the birth date of Herbert Clyde Joiner, is the Isaac and Josephine Martin Family Bible. Digital copies of the pages are in the possession of Neil Rutman (2012). This includes birth dates, death dates, burial locations of both the parents and the child. Herbert Clyde Joiner may have never married. The source for the birthdate of Herbert Clyde Joiner is the the Isaac and Josephine Martin Family Bible. Digital copies of the pages are in the possession of Neil Rutman (2012). The source for the death of Herbert Clyde Joiner is his obituary in the July 6, 1959 issue of The Daily Register from Harrisburg, Illinois. There is no mention of a wife or survivors, just his cousins in attendance. This article says he was a native of Herrin, Illinois. Herrin is in Williamson County, though his parents seem to have, based on census data, lived in Hardin County around the time of his birth. Luella and Loy divorced and both married a second time. Her death is listed in the Isaac and Josephine Martin Family Bible cited above as Luella Martin Joiner Davis. Loy Joiner appears on the 1910 and 1920 Hardin, Illinois census with wife Aurelia. Source Citation: Year: 1910; Census Place: Mcfarlan, Hardin, Illinois; Roll: T624_291; Page: 10A; Enumeration District: 0051; FHL microfilm: 1374304. "United States Census, 1920," index and images, FamilySearch (https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.1.1/MJ4S-XKM : accessed 02 Dec 2014), Loy Joiner, Rosiclare, Hardin, Illinois, United States; citing sheet 16A, family 376, NARA microfilm publication T625, National Archives and Records Administration, Washington D.C.; FHL microfilm 1820371. The source for the 'bef. 1906' date of the second marriage of Loy to Aerelia is based on the age of the oldest child on the 1910 and 1920 census. Luella is listed as Ella 'Jorner' on the 1910 Jackson County, Illinois census living with brother A C Barr and son Herbert 'Jorner', though she lists herself as a widow, perhaps due to the stigma attached to divorce in 1910. "United States Census, 1910," index and images, FamilySearch (https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.1.1/MKD6-4XR : accessed 02 Dec 2014), Ella Jorner in household of A C Barr, Murphysboro Ward 2, Jackson, Illinois, United States; citing enumeration district (ED) 59, sheet 6A, family 94, NARA microfilm publication T624, National Archives and Records Administration, Washington, D.C.; FHL microfilm 1374306. Luella has remarried by the 1920 census and is living with husband George W Davis and son Herbert Joiner (transcribed incorrectly as 'James' after looking at the original). Source Citation: Year: 1920; Census Place: Herrin, Williamson, Illinois; Roll: T625_418; Page: 3B; Enumeration District: 156; Image: 247. The 'aft. 1910' marriage date of Luella and George is based on Luella's widowed/single status on the 1920 census. This census is the source for the nativity of George W Davis. Luella and George are on the 1930 Clay County, Illinois census. Source Citation: Year: 1930; Census Place: Blair, Clay, Illinois; Roll: 411; Page: 5B; Enumeration District: 0002; Image: 592.0; FHL microfilm: 2340146. The source for the deaths and burial locations of Luella Martin Joiner Davis and George Davis is their joint headstones in the Old Union cemetery, Louisville, Clay, Illinois as found on FindaGrave.com online.
