Note: ame about in a circuitous way. I discovered a Public Member Family Tree on Ancestry.com which had a Mary Ann Freyman born in 1833 married to an Alfred Bitting, both of Lehigh County, Pennsylvania. As there were NO OTHER Mary Ann Freymans born near 1833 on the 1850 or 1860 census' in either Lehigh or Northampton Counties, other than the daughter of George and Hannah Freyman, this connection was one of interest. On checking the 1880 census in Upper Saucon, Lehigh for Alfred and Mary Ann Bitting I discovered three sons. Alfred Billing [Alfred Bitting] Age: 35 Birth Year: abt 1845 Birthplace: Pennsylvania Home in 1880: Lower Saucon, Northampton, Pennsylvania Race: White Gender: Male Relation to Head of House: Self (Head) Marital Status: Married Spouse's Name: Mary Ann Billing Father's Birthplace: Pennsylvania Mother's Birthplace: Pennsylvania Occupation: Laborer Cannot read/write: Household Members Alfred Billing 35 Mary Ann Billing 45 Edwin H. Billing 14 Oscar H. Billing 12 Oliver Billing 10 Source Citation: Year: 1880; Census Place: Lower Saucon, Northampton, Pennsylvania; Roll: 1162; Family History Film: 1255162; Page: 165A; Enumeration District: 090; Image: 0336. On searching for the death certificate of one of these sons to ascertain the maiden name of Mary Ann I found the Pennsylvania State Death Certificate no. 8125 for Oscar H Bitting in which his mother's full name is given- Mary Ann Freyman. In addition, the birth date on the headstone cited below matches the birth date found on her birth record. (See notes under father). The source for the exact birth and death dates and burial location of Mary Ann is her headstone in the Fountain Hill cemetery (in which Alfred is also buried) as found on FindaGrave.com online. The inscription after her dates reads 'wife of Alfred Bitting.' The source for the location of the death of Mary Ann is the 1895 Argus entry on December 3, 1895. Mary Ann's three sons are listed as survivors. http://www.frankenfield-beam.org/Obits/Argus1895.htm The source for the exact birth and death dates, burial location, and names of parents for Alfred is his Pennsylvania State Death Certificate no. 113733. The 'bef. 1866' marriage year is based on the age of the oldest son found on the 1880 census cited above.
Note: The confirmation of the marriage of Alfred Bitting and Mary Ann Freyman c
