Marriage:

a. Note:   scovered in a convoluted, but definitive way.
The five daughters of John Wesley Johnson were mentioned by married name in his 1943 obituary. None of them were listed with their own Christian names but in the form of, for example, 'Mrs. Edward Jones.' The married surnames of four of the daughters were already known, so discovering the mention in this obituary of 'Mrs. Joseph Marcinko of Springfield', determined that this was Mary. Mary was single on the 1940 census with her father and mother, yet by the 1943 obituary of her father she was Mrs. Mary Marcinko. That is the source of the 'abt. 1942' marriage date. The 1944 obituary of her mother lists her as 'Mrs. Mary Marcinko of San Diego" which puts her a year later in wartime in California.
Searching for the vital statistics of Joseph and Mary took a circuitous route. It seems their travels took them to California during World War II, and finally to Mesa, Arizona. First, a researcher notified me of the following find: "...One birth in Los Angeles county to MARCINKO and JOHNSON. Michael Joseph Marcinko on 3-31-1951. This family shows on the 1958 directory in Santa Maria CA. Joseph Marcinko is in USAF. Son Michael Joseph Marcinko later got married in Mesa, Maricopa AZ and resides in AZ..." This same researcher subsequently found the death record of Mary A Marcinko (born in Ohio and the same year period as Mary A Johnson) in Mesa, Maricopa County, the county of the marriage of the child listed above born to Marcinko and Johnson in California.
The source for the death of Mary Marcinko is her SS Death Index. Source Citation: Number: 287-09-7534; Issue State: Ohio; Issue Date: Before 1951. Source Information: Ancestry.com. U.S., Social Security Death Index, 1935-Current [database on-line]. Provo, UT, USA: Ancestry.com Operations Inc, 2011. Original data: Social Security Administration. Social Security Death Index, Master File. Social Security Administration.
The identity of Joseph Marcinko is more problematic. There are surprisingly several Joseph Marcinko's in the Cleveland and Springfield, Clark County, Ohio area, but two of particular interest. The most likely is a Joseph Marcinko buried in the Riverside, California military cemetery who was born 1918 and died in 1986, the same age as Mary. The reference to Mrs. Mary Marcinko of San Diego in the obituary of Mary's mother, Sarah, implies a wartime assignment at the Naval/Airforce base there. The source for this Joseph are onFindaGracve online and his SS Death Index:

Social Security Death Index. Source Citation: Number: 279-01-7534; Issue State: Ohio; Issue Date: Before 1951. (This application was taken out in the state of Ohio).
The second most likely Joseph Marcinko died in Mesa, Maricopa, Arizona, where Mary Johnson Marcinko died, but was born in 1899, which makes a twenty year difference in age between this couple.
Social Death Index, Source Citation: Number: 300-03-4573; Issue State: Ohio; Issue Date: Before 1951. (This application was also taken out in the state of Ohio).
Further information on this older Joseph came from the same researcher alluded to above, who sent me the following note,"... Joseph Marcinko...was born Jan 1, 1899 and died August 10, 1981 in Mesa, Maricopa, Arizona. He was previously married to a Kathryn S. Pearman who died in 1998 in Clark County, Ohio. Her obit on FINDAGRAVE mentions second marriage to G. Lamar Littler for 57 years (1941) so the marriage to Mary was soon after that as the the Littlers are listed in a 1943 directory. Quite a difference in age!"
Here is another Clark County, Ohio connection with both Mary A Johnson (she was raised there) and one or both of the Joseph Marcinko's.
The fact that BOTH of these Joseph Marcinko's followed the trail of Mary Johnson in various locations (in addition to the son Joseph Michael Marcinko marrying in Mesa, Maricopa, Arizona) implies a relationship which each other of perhaps father and son or uncle and nephew. At present I cannot determine which Joseph was the husband of Mary A Johnson. I have therefore listed him here as born 'bef. 1925', based on the obituary citation of Mary as Mrs. Joseph Marcinko in 1943.
If there is particular interest in this family, there is more recent research (June 2014) on the identity of these Joseph Marcinko's in the personal files of Neil Rutman which seem to resolve the identity problem. They can be had upon request.
