Notes
a. Note:   fter a fairly extensive search of online records only in 2015. Subsequent professional research by Dick Musselman in 2016 also found no record of a marriage, but the research proves a death aft 1868.
Sarah is a twenty year old on the 1850 Salisbury census with her parents. She does not appear with the family on the 1860 census so she married between 1850 and 1860. Upon finding her father's will, probated July, 1868, in which he willed equal shares to his ten children (he only had ten but did not name them in the will), of which she is one, it is clear she is still alive in 1868. As none of the children were named it is not known is she was single or married.
In 2015 I searched every week's marriage announcements in 'Der Lecha Patriot' for the years 1850-1859 and Sarah was not among the brides listed.
  Other sources searched were:

The 2016 research of Dick Musselman follows:

(note: None of the above German language newspaper entries were reviewed or copied.)

Adam Smetzer Estate File #4024, 1868 was reviewed at the Lehigh County Courthouse. Items included on the very long Inventory list suggested he was a shoemaker by trade. Neither the Will, Inventory list, Vendue list nor Accounting sheets listed the names of surviving children.

There were many Lehigh County recorded Deeds listed under the name of Adam Smetzer and Adam Smetzer Estate. Deed Book #34, page 271, 1 Feb.1858 recorded a transfer of property from Adam Smetzer & wife Catharine in Trust to Paul Brown. The property included a home that would be available to Catharine Smetzer for the remainder of her life.

Lehigh Co. Deed Book #134, page 155 (copied) records the sale of the Adam Smetzer home in Salisbury Township held in Trust since 1858 until the death of wife Catharine on 22 Mar. 1889. Catharine was survived by 6 children and 2 grandchildren named in this Deed:
 Lucinda Focht
 James Smetzer
Ella, wife of Ezekiel Fritz, deceased
 Charles Smetzer
Emma, wife of William H. Williard
 Eliza Smetzer
Catharine (now deceased), wife of James Butz, survived by two sons: Harry A. Butz &
 Wilson S. Butz

Unfortunately no new sources listing the surviving children of first wife Elizabeth Ludwig were found."
Note:   No marriage or death records were found for Sarah Schmetzer or Smetzer a
